The data on geomagnetic reversals are compared with the changes in the organic world and with the lower-mantle plumes. The times of the formation of plumes and the times of their appearance on the Earth’s surface relate to the intervals characterized by the different frequencies of geomagnetic reversals, i.e., there is no interrelation between the formation of plumes and the frequency of the changes in the geomagnetic field polarity. At the same time, a certain synchronism is observed between the frequency of the geomagnetic reversals and the boundaries of the biostratigraphic ages, i.e., the changes in the organic world in the long-period range. A hypothesis is proposed, which explains the change in the sign of the geomagnetic field by the combined effect of the irregular rotation of the internal core relative to the mantle and the changes in the slope angle of the axis of the Earth’s rotation, which, in turn, results in synchronous events on the Earth’s surface: the rates of changes in the organic world.  相似文献

贺兰山寒武系早期苏屿口组为砂、砾混杂和不等粒结构的水下冲积扇沉积;五道塘组为下古生界碳酸盐台地沉积,其下部为含泥中、细粒砂屑和生物碎屑,中、上部为含不同形态的核形石碳酸盐岩组成;陶思沟组为发育水下流动波痕和水上暴露泥裂构造碳酸盐岩与细碎屑岩系的混合沉积;胡鲁斯台组和阿不切亥组为陆表海与“风暴海”沉积.根据该区与华北地台的对比,首次提出贺兰山寒武纪早期的苏屿口组古地理面貌应是西低东高,而非传统认为的西高东低;寒武纪早期的五道塘组、陶思沟组古地理面貌则为西高东低.  相似文献

收集全球纪录的1947年7月29日,中国西藏朗县东南M7.7大地震的观测数据,分别利用中国国家地震台网和国际地震中心 ISC(International Seismological Center)的定位方法及技术重新测定。所定震中在里龙断裂带附近,经过比较分析,首选中国国家地震台网的定位方法测定结果。在此基础上,重新计算其震源机制解,和当地的里龙断裂走向一致,修订的震源位置也在该断裂上,表明里龙断裂可能是其发震断裂。  相似文献

Summary This paper discusses the atmospheric refractive index (a) throughout the year at the surface of the earth and (b) for each season in various air masses. Mean monthly or seasonal values, respectively, are employed.The annual variation in the refractive index at the earth's surface is examined by noting the contributions of the optical and the water vapor terms. The former exhibits a sinusoidal variation with a period of a year, having a maximum in winter and a minimum during summer. The amplitude of the cycle is latitude dependent, appearing greater in polar than in tropical regions. The magnitude of the water vapor term is more strongly dependent upon both season and latitude. Excepting areas where the dew point changes little from month to month, the water vapor term attains a single yearly maximum at about mid July.Graphs of the variation of refiactive index with altitude for the major air masses are included. Highest values of the index up to a height of 6 km are found in tropical maritime and monsoon air masses; lowest values, in arctic air masses. The rate of decrease of refractive index with height is usually quite different for diverse air masses. From the surface to an altitude of 6 km, the most constant rate of decrease with altitude, considering all air mass types, was found in the superior air mass.  相似文献

磁场重联是空间能量释放和转换的重要机制.静电孤立波(ESW)虽然在空间中有广泛观测,但在磁场重联附近少有直接观测,对它在磁场重联附近的特性了解甚少.通过Geotail卫星对一个磁场重联事件的观测,仔细分析了其边界层上观测到的静电孤立波的特性,并讨论了它对磁场重联的影响.研究表明,亚暴期间在磁尾发生磁场重联,重联区域的分形线附近观测到了大量的静电孤立波,其特性与在其他地方观测到的并没有显著差别,但具有更明显的非线性和孤立性的特征.它们对电子加速和能量耗散有促进作用,加速磁场重联的进程.  相似文献

The long-term deep-water measurements of the vertical component of the electric field on a surface-lakebed base revealed unexpectedly high interannual changeability in the amplitudes of its variations in periods ranging from a few hours to several months. This changeability almost equally affects the field components caused by the induction in the water flows and, supposedly, by the closing current of the global electric circuit above the rift fault. We present the evidence for the correlation of this effect with the interannual variability in meteorological activity. However, the physical background of this correlation is trivial only for the electric component associated with the induction and still remains unclear for the field component caused by the closing current, which has much higher amplitude.  相似文献

The depth changes in the b-value and density of the number of earthquakes in different magnitude bins (M ≥ 1.8, M ≥ 3.0, M ≥ 3.5) are analyzed using highly accurate seismological observations carried out in 1955–1991 at the Garm prognostic area in Tadjikistan. It is found that the observed b-values are controlled by the variations in the proportion between weak and strong earthquakes. Two horizons with different patterns of the b-value are identified in the Earth’s crust above and below a depth of 15–16 km. The b-value in the upper and lower horizons is close to 0.8 and 1.2, respectively. The lower horizon is marked by almost complete absence of relatively strong earthquakes with M ≥ 3.0. The observed changes in the b-value with increasing depth could probably be due to the increase in the strength of crustal material caused by the growth in temperature and confining pressure in the depth interval from 0 to 15 km. The transitional interval between the upper and lower crustal horizons (~13–18 km), which is characterized by a sharp drop in seismic activity, can probably be associated with the zone of the phase transition of crustal material from an elastic brittle state to a plastic state, as suggested by some authors. Typically, the top of this zone hosts the hypocenters of the strongest earthquakes in a given territory. The correlation is established between the crustal areas with low b-values and the locations of the strongest earthquakes in the region. It is suggested that the three-dimensional mapping of the b-value can be helpful for estimating the location, depth, and maximal magnitude of the probable strong earthquakes in seismically active regions and can be used to assess seismic risks.  相似文献

Leaching of aluminium from the weathering profile of the African surface in Malawi was deduced from the chemistry of a vadose profile. Its loss occurs where congruent kaolinite dissolution results in saprolite collapse, leaving a weakly lateritized, sandy residual mantle. This leaching is a contemporary process, as shown by the precipitation of aluminosilicate evaporites in the dambos (seasonally waterlogged bottomlands). This paper presents the results of determinations, by ICP-OES and AAS-graphite furnace, of aluminium levels in groundwaters, examining the effects of a variety of pretreatments. Filtration (0.45 μm) substantially reduces the levels of total aluminium, showing it to be in particulate form. Subsequent acidification causes precipitation of < 0.45 μm forms of aluminium, further reducing the apparent levels to below ICP-OES detection limit. This is consistent with mobilization in organically bound forms which are destabilized at low pH, and accords with earlier work which showed that indigenous micro-organisms can cause dissolution of kaolinite. Organically bound mobilization provides an explanation for aluminium leaching at near-neutral pH in conjunction with the presence of silica in solution. The identification of this mechanism of kaolinite dissolution and aluminium evacuation from vadose profiles provides a realistic process for the levelling of extensive planation surfaces; the contingent collapse of the kaolinized saprolite would lower the interfluves, progressively narrowing the vadose zone until the landsurface approaches the planar form of the stable, regional water-table.  相似文献

The island of Crete is located in the forearc of the Hellenic subduction zone, where the African lithospheric plate is subducting beneath the Eurasian one. The depth of the plate contact as well as the internal structure of the Aegean plate in the area of Crete have been a matter of debate. In this study, seismic constrains obtained by wide-angle seismic, receiver function and surface wave studies are discussed and compared to a 3D density model of the region.The interface between the Aegean continental lithosphere and the African one is located at a depth of about 50 km below Crete. According to seismic studies, the Aegean lithosphere in the area of Crete is characterised by strong lateral, arc–parallel heterogeneity. An about 30 km thick Aegean crust is found in central Crete with a density of about 2850 kg/m3 for the lower Aegean continental crust and a density of about 3300 kg/m3 for the mantle wedge between the Aegean crust and the African lithosphere. For the deeper crust in the area of western Crete two alternative models have been proposed by seismic studies. One with an about 35 km thick crust and another one with crustal velocities down to the plate contact. A grid search is performed to test the consistency of these models with gravimetric constraints. For western Crete a model with a thick lower Aegean crust and a density of about 2950 kg/m3 is favoured. The inferred density of the lower Aegean crust in the area of Crete correlates well with S-wave velocities obtained by surface wave studies.Based on the 3D density model, the weight of the Aegean lithosphere is estimated along an E–W oriented profile in the area of Crete. Summary The maintenance of the axisymmetric component of the flow in the atmosphere is investigated by means of a steady-state, quasi-geostrophic formulation of the meteorological equations. It is shown that the meridional variations in the time-averaged axisymmetric variables can be expressed as the sum of three contributions, one being due to the eddy heat transport, another to the eddy momentum transport, and a third to the convective-radiative equilibrium temperature which enters the problem through the specification of a Newtonian form of diabatic heating. The contributions by the large scale eddies are evaluated through the use of observed values for the eddy heat and momentum transports.The contributions from each of the three forcing mechanisms to the temperature and zonal wind fields are invstigated individually and found to be of about equal importance. The sum of the three contributions are also presented for the temperature, the zonal wind, the stream function associated with the mean meridional circulation and the corresponding vertical motion. Although the results fail to reproduce the main observed features of the lower stratosphere, they are found to be in good agreement with observations in the middle latitude troposphere. Dependence of the diurnal periodicity phase diagrams for Southern California earthquakes on their magnitude is studied with the Rayleigh-Schuster method. The highest statistical significance of diurnal periodicity is characteristic for the weakest non-representative earthquakes occurring in the night rather than in the daytime. The statistical significance of the earthquake diurnal periodicity decreases as the earthquake magnitude increases. Diurnal periodicity disappears in the neighborhood of the catalog magnitude of completeness. It appears again with a reasonably high level of statistical significance in the magnitude range exceeding the magnitude of completeness. However, its phase becomes opposite: strong earthquakes are more frequent in the daytime. Phase diagrams of different spatial earthquake sample groups are compared, and the night and daytime earthquake recurrence graphs are studied.  相似文献

In the catchment area of the Pomeranian Bay an average mercury concentration of 178 ng/l in precipitation was determined. Eight different flowing waters showed mean concentrations between 105 ng/l (?upawa) and 500 ng/l (Odra), a pronounced annual cycle having been demonstrated for the concentrations and for the freights with the minimum in February/March and the maximum in August/September. The total freight of the eight rivers amounts to 19.5 t/a, the share of the Wisla being 11 t/a. The ratio between the mercury precipitation of 335 to 410 μg/m2a Hg and the run-off varies of 30 … 75 μg/m2a Hg for the individual river basins between 0.08 and 0.21. In the Baltic Sea, the mercury concentrations are 40 ng/l in the open sea, 50 ng/l in the coastal region and 290 … 390 ng/l near the estuaries. Trough the eight investigated rivers about 48 km3/a water run off into the Baltic Sea with about 20 t/a Hg. The total introduction of Hg into the Baltic Sea is estimated at 100 t/a with the river water, 35 t/a with precipitation and 35 t/a with dust.  相似文献

Archaeological investigations in Ecuador have proposed that there appear to be hiatus or anomalous jumps in the progressive development of pre-Columbian indigenous cultures, based upon the fact that their ceramics and tools demonstrate abrupt advances in their sophistication at several horizons in the soil profile. Because some of these horizons are clearly associated with volcanic ash layers, archaeologists have sought a causal relation with volcanism, that is, the eruptive events or their products severely interfered with the early inhabitants, resulting in their abandonment of certain areas.  相似文献

Estimates of the chemical load of reservoirs in the water divide reach of the Moscow Canal in terms of phosphates, ammonium ion, nitrates, chlorides, organic matter (by permanganate oxidability), and BOD are given. Matter fluxes for lateral tributaries are compared with the fluxes along the canal, and the obtained relationships are used to evaluate seasonal variations in the role of lateral inflow in water quality formation in the reservoirs. The role of tributaries is shown to increase with decreasing volumes of Volga water transfer.  相似文献

Summary Direct measurements of the thermal plasma parameters in the topside ionosphere reveal variations of the plasmasphere boundary in the dusk sector. The ACTIVE satellite's near-polar orbits at altitudes of 500 – 1800 km around winter solstice 1989 were used to study the bulge region of the plasmasphere during intervals with different levels of geomagnetic agitation. The narrow, sharply defined trough in electron concentration corresponding to the plasmapause under quiet conditions situated at L = 6 – 7 moved to lower L-values with increasing geomagnetic activity. This narrow trough can be found in all main ion constituents. During periods of moderate geomagnetic activity, following the onset of a weak magnetic storm, a portion of the plasmaspheric bulge region was separated from the main plasmaspheric body. This can be seen in the outer ionosphere as an inner narrow trough at lower L-value. Troughs in light ions need no longer coincide with this in electron concentration. The influence of inerial forces in the mantle on its tidal deformations is considered. It is shown that the main role is played the corrections, described by spheroidal deformations, which result in corrections of nutational amplitudes of about –0.076 mas for the prograde semi-annual component, –0.056 mas for the retrograde annual component, 0.099 mas for the retrograde 19-year component, and –0.024 mas for the prograde 14-day component. These values exceed the errors of modem VLBI-measurements significantly (being of the order of 0.02-0.03 mas with the exception of the main nutational component); the effect of toroidal deformations is negligibly smalt in comparison with the accuracy of the VLBI-measurements, and for any practical purposes need not be considered.  相似文献

The dynamics of wave disturbances in the ionospheric E region in the band of periods of thermal tidal waves and waves of planetary scales (T = 48, 72, and 192 h) has been studied based on the variations in the horizontal component of the geomagnetic field, observed at Paratunka and Barrow observatories in September–October 1999. It has been found that, at midlatitudes during high geomagnetic activity, the intensity of oscillations in the power spectra with T = 24 and 12 h varies with a periodicity of 16 days different from the periodicity of changes in the ΣKp index. The maximal deviations of these periods from the values under quiet conditions coincide with the maximal changes in the ΣKp index. The variations in the 48–192 h band of periods (especially with T ~192 h) intensify simultaneously with increasing geomagnetic activity. The intensity of this harmonic is several times as high as that of the harmonic with T ~ 24 h. The periodicity of changes in the harmonics intensity within the 48–192 h band coincides with the periodicity of changes in the ΣKp index. In the polar ionosphere, the effect of high geomagnetic activity is observed as an increase in the variations with a quasi-period of T ~ 24 h and as an appearance of variations in the 48–192 h band with the periodicity coinciding with the maximums in the ΣKp index variations.  相似文献

Information about topography, the shape of the geoid, seismicity, Neogene deformation and volcanism in the region of Altiplano-Puna of western South America is used to analyse the state of stress across the convergent plate margin in terms of the effects of topography and simple models of its compensation. An average elevation near 4 km is consistent with compensation by a yet unresolved combination of crustal root and hot uppermost mantle producing a geoid high of 22–27 meters, average horizontal compressive stress (in excess of a reference sea level lithostatic value) of 390 bars in a 150 km thick lithosphere, and an average shear stress of 170 bars along a 30° dipping interplate boundary. The basis for these estimates is evidence for a neutral to extensional stress regime within the high plateau contrasted with a compressional regime on the eastern slopes and along the interplate boundary itself. Comparison with other plateaus in a convergent plate tectonic setting suggests an evolutionary sequence from compressional to extensional tectonics as elevation of the plateau increases.  相似文献

White corona images are analyzed based on the calibrated data of the LASCO-C2/SOHO instrument (processing level 1) and the solar wind (SW) parameters with hourly and minute resolutions on the Wind spacecraft. The quasistationary events, excluding coronal mass ejections and their manifestations in SW are studied. It has been indicated that the angular dimensions and relative variations in the density of the streamer belt segments remain almost unchanged over the entire distance from the Sun to the Earth’s orbit. In the Earth’s orbit, the ray structure of the belt streamer manifests itself as sharp (with steep fronts lasting several minutes and less) peaks (of several hours in duration) of the solar wind plasma density with maximal values N max > 10 cm?3.  相似文献
