ABSTRACT

The Bir Umq ophiolite is one of the most important ophiolitic successions in the Arabian Shield, and represents an excellent case for the study of the tectonomagmatic evolution of the earliest Precambrian events in the juvenile part of the Arabian-Nubian Shield (ANS). It is a dismembered ophiolite, which includes a serpentinized peridotite with small amounts of gabbro and mélange, and is overlain by the Sumayir formation. The mantle section of the Bir Umq ophiolite has been pervasively sheared and folded during its emplacement and is extensively serpentinized, carbonated and silicified, resulting in the common development of magnesite and listwaenite along the shear zones. Listwaenite occurs in the form of upstanding ridges due to its resistance to erosion. Antigorite is the main serpentine mineral, which, however, has low amounts of lizardite and chrysotile, indicating that the present serpentinites formed by prograde metamorphism. The ophiolitic rocks of Bir Umq have undergone regional metamorphism up to the greenschist to amphibolite facies. The presence of mesh and bastite textures indicates harzburgite and dunite protoliths. The serpentinized peridotite preserves rare relicts of primary minerals such as olivine, pyroxene and Cr-spinel. The serpentinized ultramafics of Bir Umq have high Mg# [molar Mg/(Mg+Fe2+); 0.90–0.93), low CaO, and Al2O3 contents similar to that of the environment of the suprasubduction zone. Additionally, they are characterized by the depletion of some compatible trace elements (e.g., Nb, Sr, Ta, Zr, Hf and REE), but show a wide variation in the Rb and Ba. Moreover, they are enriched in some elements that have affinities for Mg-rich minerals such as Ni, Cr, V, and Co. Fresh relics of olivine have high Fo (av. 0.91) and NiO (av. 0.42) contents, similar to those in the mantle olivine. The fresh Cr-spinel has high Cr# (0.68) and low TiO2 content (av. 0.11), similar to those in modern fore-arc peridotites. The composition of both orth- and clinopyroxenes confirms the fore-arc affinity of the studied ultramafics. The present study indicates that the protoliths of the serpentinized ultramafics of Bir Umq have high partial melt degrees, which is consistent with the characteristics of ultramafic rocks formed in a subarc environment (fore-arc) within a suprasubduction zone system.

The Burro Mountain ultramafic complex, Monterey County, California, consists of dunites and peridotites which are partially or wholly serpentinized. Primary minerals in both rock types are olivine, enstatite, diopside, and picotite which upon alteration yield chrysotile, lizardite, brucite, magnetite, talc, tremolite, and carbonate. Electron microprobe analyses show that enstatite, En85.8 to En90.8, alters to “bastite” composed only of lizardite (5.0–12.0 weight percent FeO), whereas olivine, Fo90.8 to Fo91.6, forms lizardite+chrysotile+brucite with or without magnetite. The chrysotile ranges from 3.0 to 5.0 weight percent FeO, the brucite from 16.0 to 43.0 weight percent FeO. As Serpentinization proceeds, the alteration products are enriched in FeO relative to MgO. Serpentinization probably originates in a changing \(P_{O_2 }\)-T environment by two different reactions:

During regional metamorphism of the Malenco serpentinized peridotite (Sondrio, northern Italy), the mineral assemblage pentlandite-awaruite-magnetite-native copper-antigorite-brucite-olivine-diopside is formed. The opaque assemblage indicates very reduced fluids with fO2 values 4 log units below QFM. Primary fluid inclusions were trapped in diopside overgrowth, contemporaneous with the opaque assemblage. These metamorphic fluids are saline aqueous solutions (about 10.4 mol% NaCl equivalent) and contain molecular H2 of approximately 1 mol%, as shown by micro-Raman analysis and microthermometry. The fluids are interpreted to have been formed during deserpentinization at the olivine-in isograd under strong reducing conditions.  相似文献

Serpentinites (massive and schistose) and listvenite occur as tectonic sheets and lenses within a calcareous metasedimentary mélange of the Tulu Dimtu, western Ethiopia. The massive serpentinite contains high-magnesian metamorphic olivine (forsterite [fo] ~96 mol%) and rare relict primary mantle olivine (Fo90–93). Both massive and schistose serpentinites contain zoned chromian spinel; the cores with the ferritchromite rims preserve a pristine Cr/(Cr+Al) atomic ratio (Cr# = 0.79–0.87), suggesting a highly depleted residual mantle peridotite, likely formed in a suprasubduction zone setting. Listvenite associated with serpentinites of smaller ultramafic lenses also contain relict chromian spinel having identical Cr# to those observed in serpentinites. However, the relict chromian spinel in listvenite has significantly higher Mg/(Mg+Fe2+) atomic ratios. This suggests that a nearly complete metasomatic replacement of ultramafic rocks by magnesite, talc, and quartz to prevent Mg–Fe2+ redistribution between relict chromian spinel and the host, that is, listvenite formation, took place prior to re-equilibration between chromian spinel and the surrounding mafic minerals in serpentinites. Considering together with the regional geological context, low-temperature CO2-rich hydrothermal fluids would have infiltrated into ultramafic rocks from host calcareous sedimentary rocks at a shallow level of accretionary prism before a continental collision to form the East African Orogen (EAO).  相似文献

The Xugou garnet peridotite body of the southern Sulu ultrahigh‐pressure (UHP) terrane is enclosed in felsic gneiss, bounded by faults, and consists of harzburgite and lenses of garnet clinopyroxenite and eclogite. The peridotite is composed of variable amounts of olivine (Fo91), enstatite (En92?93), garnet (Alm20?23Prp53?58Knr6?9Grs12?18), diopside and rare chromite. The ultramafic protolith has a depleted residual mantle composition, indicated by a high‐Mg number, very low CaO, Al2O3 and total REE contents compared to primary mantle and other Sulu peridotites. Most garnet (Prp44?58) clinopyroxenites are foliated. Except for rare kyanite‐bearing eclogitic bands, most eclogites contain a simple assemblage of garnet (Alm29?34Prp32?50Grs15?39) + omphacite (Jd24?36) + minor rutile. Clinopyroxenite and eclogite exhibit LREE‐depleted and LREE‐enriched patterns, respectively, but both have flat HREE patterns. Normalized La, Sm and Yb contents indicate that both eclogite and garnet clinopyroxenite formed by high‐pressure crystal accumulation (+ variable trapped melt) from melts resulting from two‐stage partial melting of a mantle source. Recrystallized textures and P–T estimates of 780–870 °C, 5–7 GPa and a metamorphic age of 231 ± 11 Ma indicate that both mafic and ultramafic protoliths experienced Triassic UHP metamorphism in the P–T forbidden zone with an extremely low thermal gradient (< 5 °C km?1), and multistage retrograde recrystallization during exhumation. Develop of prehnite veins in clinopyroxenite, eclogite, felsic blocks and country rock gneiss, and replacements of eclogitic minerals by prehnite, albite, white mica, and K‐feldspar indicate low‐temperature metasomatism.  相似文献

Chemical analyses of over seventy lavas or dykes containing spinel lherzolite inclusions of high pressure mineralogy, show that most host magmas are of alkali olivine basalt or basanite composition with relatively rare olivine nephelinites, and olivine melilitites. The 100 Mg/Mg+Fe++ ratios of host magmas display a strong maximum at about Mg70 consistent with partial melting of source peridotite with olivine of Fo88–90. In contrast to these primary magmas, there occur some host magmas with 100 Mg/Mg+Fe++<60 and with chemical compositions resembling those of classical hawaiite, mugearite, and nepheline benmoreite magmas. It is inferred that these magmas have been produced by crystal fractionation, within the upper mantle, of parental basanites or alkali olivine basalts. The presence of kaersutitic hornblende xenocrysts accompanying the lherzolite inclusions, and the nature of the chemical variation between associated basanites and nepheline benmoreites suggests that crystal fractionation has been dominated by kaersutitic hornblende, together with olivine and, in some cases, probably clinopyroxene. The mantle-derived nepheline benmoreite magmas also show similarities to some plutonic nepheline syenites.  相似文献

The Lizard peridotite produced a high-temperature metamorphicaureole during diapirie emplacement in a period of amphibolitefacies regional metamorphism. The peridotite preserves a coarse-grainedprimary core within a cataclastic, finely foliated and recrystallizedmarginal shell. Chemical analyses demonstrate the constancyof rock composition in the primary and recrystallized mineralassemblages. The primary mineral assemblage of the peridotiteconsists of olivine (Fo89), aluminous enstatite, aluminous diopside, and green aluminous spinel. In contrast the mineral assemblageon recrystallization is olivine, enstatite (normal Al2O3 content),diopside (normal Al2O3 content), plagioclase, and brown chromite.A third assemblage of olivine, pargasite, and brown chromianspinel is developed locally from the plagioclase-bearing assemblage, particularly in contact areas. Major and trace element analyses of twenty minerals and eightrocks are given. These are compared in detail with peridotitesand minerals occurring as accumulates from basaltic magma, asperidotite nodules in basalts and as ’intrusive' peridotitesin orogenic areas. It is concluded that the primary mineralsof the Lizard peridotite have not crystallized and accumulatedfrom a basaltic magma but have crystallized in a similar environmentto that of peridotite nodules in basalts. It is further concludedthat the cause of the differences between the primary and recrystallizedassemblages of the peridotite is primarily a difference in loadpressure at crystallization. In particular the high aluminacontent of both enstatite and diopside and the coexistence ofpyroxenes+ aluminous spinel instead of olivine+anorthite areconsidered to be a direct consequence of the high load pressureat the initial crystallization of the peridotite.  相似文献

The Happo-O’ne peridotite complex is situated in the northeastern part of the Hida Marginal Tectonic Zone, central Japan, characterized by the high-P/T Renge metamorphism, and is considered as a serpentinite mélange of Paleozoic age. Peridotitic rocks, being massive or foliated, have been subjected to hydration and metamorphism. Their protoliths are mostly lherzolites to harzburgites with subordinate dunites. We found a characteristic mineral assemblage, olivine + orthopyroxene + tremolite + chlorite + chromian spinel, being stable at low-T, from 650 to 750°C, and high-P, from 16 to 20 kbar, tremolite–chlorite peridotites of the tremolite zone. Olivines are Fo88–Fo91, and orthopyroxenes (Mg# = 0.91) show low and homogenous distributions of Al2O3 (up to 0.25 wt%), Cr2O3 (up to 0.25 wt%), CaO (up to 0.36 wt%) and TiO2 (up to 0.06 wt%) due to the low equilibration temperature. Chromian spinels, which are euhedral and enclosed mainly in the orthopyroxenes, have high TiO2, 3.1 wt% (up to 5.7 wt%) on average, and high Cr# [=Cr/(Cr + Al) atomic ratio], 0.95 on average but low Fe3+ [=Fe3+/(Cr + Al + Fe3+) atomic ratio, <0.3]. The bulk-rock chemistry shows that the Happo-O’ne metaperidotites with this peculiar spinel are low in TiO2 (0.01–0.02 wt%), indicating no addition of TiO2 from the outside source during the metamorphism; the high TiO2 of the peculiar spinel has been accomplished by Ti release from Ti-bearing high-T pyroxenes during the formation of low-T, low-Ti silicates (<0.1 wt% TiO2) during cooling. Some dunites are intact from hydration: their olivine is Fo92 and spinel shows high Cr#, 0.72. The Happo-O’ne metaperidotites (tremolite–chlorite peridotites), being in the corner of the mantle wedge, are representative of a hydrous low-T, high-P mantle peridotite facies transitional from a higher T anhydrous peridotite facies (spinel peridotites) formed by in situ retrograde metamorphism influenced by fluids from the subducting slab. They have suffered from low-T (<600°C) retrogressive metamorphism to form antigorite and diopside during exhumation of the Renge metamorphic belt.  相似文献

The chromites from the alpine type ultramafic intrusive of Sukinda, India, display a typical partly inverse spinel form and occur in two distinct zones: Brown Ore Zone (BOZ) and Grey Ore Zone (GOZ). The host ultramafites are mostly altered and are represented by the serpentinite, tremolite-talc(chlorite) schist, talc-serpentine schist and chlorite rock. The less altered variants are dunite, harzburgite and websterite. A dyke of orthopyroxenite runs through the main ultramafic body. The composition of olivine (Fo92), orthopyroxene (En92–89) and Al2O3 contents of the parental liquid (10.40–11.45%) determined from chromites, suggest that the parent melt is of boninitic affinity. The chemical plot of TiO2 content against cr# of chromites corroborates a boninitic parental melt. The Fe–Mg partitioning in olivine and chromite depicts the temperature for chromitites as 1200 °C. A compositional plot of mg# and cr# suggests crystallization at high pressure conditions, corresponding to the kimberlite xenolith field. From the PT diagram of pyrolite melting and mineral assemblage, the pressure of crystallization is stipulated to be ≥1.2 GPa. The fO2 values estimated from Fe3+/Cr+Al+Fe3+ ratios range from 10−8.3 to 10−9.3 for the GOZ and 10−7.1 to 10−7.3 for the BOZ. The fO2 values together with the pressure range suggest crystallization at upper mantle conditions. The heterogeneity in chemical composition and fO2 conditions for the GOZ and BOZ could be linked to heterogeneity in the upper mantle.  相似文献

Whole-rock, major and trace element analyses and microprobe mineral analyses were conducted on serpentinized peridotites recovered from the walls of a MAR (Mid-Atlantic Ridge) 43° N fracture zone. These peridotites are extensively serpentinized; serpentine usually makes up 30–100 vol. percent of the bulk rocks. The relict minerals observed consist mainly of olivine and orthopyroxene with subordinate amounts of clinopyroxene and brown spinel. The range in olivine composition is very limited (Fo91–92). Orthopyroxene forms large, anhedral crystals with clinopyroxene exsolution lamellae and shows undulose extinction with bent cleavages and lamellae. Broad beam microprobe analyses indicate that the composition range of orthopyroxene is also limited (En89.1–87.6Fs8.2-8.0Wo2.7–4.4; Al2O3=1.82–2.64 wt%; Cr2O3=0.63–0.88 wt%). Clinopyroxene tends to fringe large orthopyroxene crystals or fills the interstices between them. The Mg/Fe ratios of clinopyroxene are practically constant; however, the Ca/(Ca + Mg + Fe) ratios range from 0.48 to 0.45. The Cr/(Cr+Al) and Mg/(Mg+ Fe2+) ratios of brown spinel range from 0.57 to 0.36 and 0.69 to 0.56, respectively. The geothermometers utilizing coexisting spinel lherzolite mineral assemblages suggest that the MAR 43° N peridotites attained equilibrium at temperatures from 1100° to 1250° C.Peridotites recovered from the ocean floor are generally considered to have been subjected to partial melting processes and are regarded as residues left after primary magma was removed. Major element chemistry of the MAR 43° N peridotites are compared with those of the ocean-floor ultramafic tectonites reported previously and used together with those published data to demonstrate that the major element abundances of the oceanfloor peridotites define an average trend which is compatible with removal of primary magma from these peridotites at moderate pressures (10–15 kb). Then, the most primitive abyssal tholeiite glasses could be produced by ca. 10% olivine fractionation of such primary magma. Extensive fractionation of olivine and/or orthopyroxene from picritic liquids which are in equilibrium with the lherzolitic or harzburgitic mantle sources at higher pressures (>20 kb) could not yield the majority of the most primitive abyssal tholeiite glasses.  相似文献

In this paper, we present whole-rock and mineral geochemistry of serpentinized peridotites from the Suru Valley ophiolite slice Ladakh Himalaya, in an attempt to put constraints on their petrogenesis and tectonic evolution in the context of Mesozoic Neo-Tethys Ocean. On the basis of petrographic study, Suru Valley serpentinized peridotites can be identified as serpentinized harzburgites. Relative to primitive mantle these rocks have depleted major and rare earth element (REE) geochemical characteristics comparable to ocean floor mantle rocks reflecting their mantle residual nature. However, higher abundance of highly incompatible large ion lithophile elements (e.g., Rb, Ba, Th, U, Pb and Sr), reflect metasomatism in a subduction zone environment. The presence of silicate assemblage includes Mg-rich olivine (Fo90-92) and orthopyroxene (En91-93 Fs6.4-8.7) of supra-subduction zone affinity. Evaluation of mineral and whole-rock geochemistry suggests that the Suru Valley ophiolitic peridotites represent residues left after moderate degrees of partial melting thereby underwent metasomatism in a supra-subduction zone environment related to north dipping intra-oceanic island arc during Cretaceous in the context of Mesozoic Neo-Tethys ocean.  相似文献

The conglomerates of the Solund Devonian basin of SW-Norway contain numerous (locally up to 20 vol.%) peridotitic clasts with concentric mm- to 10-cm thick zones of varying red to black color. The peridotite clasts show a clear, alteration-related textural evolution. The least-altered rocks are partly serpentinized peridotites, showing a typical mesh texture with veins of serpentine, magnesite and Ni-rich magnetite surrounding olivine (Fo91) relicts and its Mg-depleted, clay-like alteration product (deweylite assemblage). In the more advanced ophicarbonate stage, the mesh cells contain calcite, silica and are surrounded by talc. In the final stage, quartz, calcite, and hematite dominate the mineralogy and occur together with minor amounts of chromite, talc, Cr-chlorite, and Cr-hydroandradite. In tandem with this textural evolution is a decrease in MgO from 40 to 2.5 wt% and a CaO increase from 1 to 35 wt%. All peridotite clasts are characterized by high Cr and Ni concentrations. The chemistry and the textural evolution show that the clasts formed by an extreme Mg-mobilization from the peridotite, with development of secondary porosity and subsequent precipitation of calcite. MgO removed from the clasts after burial is in part consumed by replacement reactions in the sediment matrix around the clasts where Mg-free minerals (e.g., almandine) are replaced by Mg-bearing minerals (e.g., talc). Calculated apparent 87Sr/86Sr ratios of the clasts at 385 Ma (0.7124-0.7139), corresponding to the inferred age of sediment deposition and incipient clast alteration, indicate interaction with diagenetic basinal fluids. We explain the reaction history as a three stage process involving (a) partial serpentinization of olivine in an oceanic environment (b) breakdown of olivine relicts to the deweylite assemblage resulting in mobilization of MgO under (near-) surface conditions in a tropical Devonian climate and (c) further Mg-mobilization and replacement of the deweylite assemblage by calcite and quartz after diagenesis. Sedimentary basins with abundant weathered peridotite represent potential sites for a permanent CO2 storage by formation of calcite in a low-temperature environment.  相似文献

Ultramafic/mafic complexes hosting Fe-Ni-Cu mineralization occur as small, lensoidal bodies within the Svecofennian, molasse-like metasedimentary rocks of the Vammala Nickel Belt (VNB) in southwestern Finland. One of them, the Sääksjärvi metaperidotitemetagabbro complex, has been studied to gain a better understanding of their petrogenesis and timing of emplacement. These ultramafic rocks were emplaced before the regional upper-amphibolite-facies metamorphism of the Svecofennian orogeny. They recrystallized to amphibole-dominated assemblages comprising: (1) in metaperidotiteolivine + magnesian hornblende ± chromite ± enstatite ± augite ± phlogopite; (2) in hornblendite-actinolitic hornblende ± augite ± plagioclase ± Fe-Ti oxides; and (3) in metagabbro-actinolitic hornblende + plagioclase ± Fe-Ti oxides ± biotite. The recrystallization was accompanied by changes that involved the formation of a lattice-preferred orientation in olivine and porphyroclastic, poikiloblastic, and equigranular textures.

Geochemical modeling indicates that the ultramafic rocks were derived from a tholeiitic magma (Mg/Mg + Fe = 0.58 to 0.62; Ni = 90 to 120 ppm; low Ti content) by olivine (Fo78-84) accumulation and, in the case of the gabbro differentiates, accumulation of olivine with subordinate clinopyroxene and plagioclase. The geochemical character is that of island-arc low-Ti tholeiites and, like other VNB intrusions, involves enrichment of light-ion-lithophile elements and rare-earth elements relative to high-field-strength elements compared with normalized mid-oceanic-ridge basalts; this is particularly evident in the Nd/Nb, Zr/Nb, and Th/ Nb ratios. In the studied cumulate body, the sheared margins and the contact-parallel foliation indicate that the ultramafic bodies underwent plastic deformation and possibly were displaced along the evolving foliation in the more ductile migmatitic country rocks. This is contrary to previous interpretations of the VNB ultramafic bodies, which have been treated essentially as unmodified in situ magmatic intrusions.  相似文献

The oxygen isotopic distribution in an amoeboid olivine aggregate (AOA), TTA1-02, from the Allende CV3 chondrite has been determined by secondary ion mass spectrometry. The irregular shaped TTA1- 02 (5×3mm) consists mostly of olivine grains of ca. 5μm in diameter. Olivine grains of Mg-rich (Fo95) and Fe-rich (Fo60) composition are in direct contact with each other, with a sharp compositional boundary. Oxygen isotopic compositions of Fe-rich olivine grains are 16O-poor (Δ17O ≅ −5‰), whereas Mg-rich olivine is 16O-rich (Δ17O ≅ −25‰). Several Al-rich inclusions (<ca. 500 μm in diameter) are enclosed by olivine grains in the AOA. Oxygen isotopic compositions of spinel and fassaite in Al-rich inclusions are 16O-rich (Δ17O ≅ −20‰), whereas those of anorthite, nepheline and phyllosilicate are 16O-poor (Δ17O ≅ −5‰). We propose the following sequence of events during the formation of AOAs in the Allende meteorite: 1) Formation of Al-rich inclusions with 16O-rich oxygen isotopic composition; 2) Accretion of Mg-rich olivine grains with 16O-rich oxygen isotopic composition around Al-rich inclusions; 3) Accretion into parent body; and 4) Aqueous alteration in the parent body, which led to crystallization of 16O-poor minerals, Fe-rich olivine, anorthite, nepheline, and phyllosilicate. This is reflecting reactions among primary 16O-rich AOA minerals and aqueous fluid having 16O-poor oxygen isotopic composition. Fe-rich olivine grains precipitated from aqueous fluids, which partially dissolved pre-existing Mg-rich olivine grains. Sintering and Mg-Fe diffusion occurred during thermal metamorphism. Anorthite, nepheline and phyllosilicate in Al-rich inclusions replaced primary anorthite or melilite during the aqueous alteration stage.  相似文献

The Betic Ophiolitic Association, cropping out within the Mulhacén Complex (Betic Cordilleras), is made up of numerous metre- to kilometre-sized lenses of mafic and/or ultramafic and meta-sedimentary rocks. Pre-Alpine oceanic metasomatism and metamorphism caused the first stage of serpentinization in the ultramafic sequence of this association, which is characterized by local clinopyroxene (Cpx) breakdown and Ca-depletion, and complementary rodingitization of the basic dykes intruded in them. Subsequent eo-Alpine orogenic metamorphism developed eclogite facies assemblages in ultramafic and basic lithotypes, which were partly retrograded in Ab-Ep-amphibolite facies conditions during a meso-Alpine event. The heterogeneous development of the oceanic metasomatism in the ultramafic rock-types led to the patchy development of highly serpentinized Ca-depleted domains, without gradual transition to the host, and less serpentinized, Cpx-bearing ultramafites, mainly lherzolitic in composition. The high-pressure eo-Alpine recrystallization of these ultramafites in subduction conditions originated secondary harzburgites in the Ca-depleted domains, consisting of a spinifex-like textured olivine+orthopyroxene paragenesis, and a diopside+Ti-clinohumite paragenesis in the enclosing lherzolitic rocks. During the meso-Alpine event, secondary harzburgites were partly transformed into talc+antigorite serpentinites, whereas the diopside and clinohumite-bearing residual meta-lherzolites were mainly transformed into Cpx-bearing serpentinites. Relics of mantle-derived colourless olivine may be present in the more or less serpentinized secondary harzburgites. These relics are overgrown by the eo-Alpine brown pseudo-spinifex olivine, which contains submicroscopic inclusions of chromite, ilmenite and occasional halite and sylvite, inherited from its parental oceanic serpentine. The same type of mantle-derived olivine relics is also preserved within the Cpx-bearing serpentinites, although it has been partly replaced by the eo-Alpine Ti-clinohumite. The dolerite dykes included in the ultramafites were partly rodingitized in an oceanic environment. They were then transformed during the eo-Alpine event into meta-rodingites in their border zones and into eclogites towards the innermost, less-rodingitized portions. Estimated PT conditions for the high-pressure assemblages in ultramafic and basic lithotypes range from 650 to 750°C and 16–25 kb.  相似文献

The origin and the relationships between the high potassic (HKS) and potassic (KS) suites of the Roman Comagmatic Province and the nature of their primary magmas have been intensively debated over the past 35 years. We have addressed these problems by a study of mineralogy (olivine Fo92-87, Cr-spinel and diopside) and melt inclusions in olivine phenocrysts from a scoria sample of Montefiascone (Vulsini area). This rock is considered as one of the most primitive (MgO=13.5 wt%, NiO=340 ppm; Cr=1275 ppm) in the northern part of the Roman Comagmatic Province. The compositions of both the olivine and their melt inclusions are controlled by two main processes. In the case of the olivine Fo<90.5, fractional crystallization (olivine + diopside + minor spinel) was the principal mechanism of the magma evolution. The olivine (Fo92-90.5) and the Cr-spinel (Cr#=100. Cr/(Cr+Al)=63-73) represent a near-primary liquidus assemblage and indicate the mantle origin of their parental magmas. The compositions of melt inclusions in these olivine phenocrysts correspond to those of poorly fractionated H2O-rich ( 1 wt%) primary melts (MgO=8.4-9.7 wt%,FeOtotal=6-7.5 wt%). They evidence a wide compositional range (in wt%: SiO2=46.5-50, K2O=5.3-2.8, P2O5=0.4-0.2, S=0.26-0.12; Cl=0.05-0.03, and CaO/Al2O3= 0.8-1.15), with negative correlations between SiO2 and K2O, Al2O3 and CaO, as well as positive correlations between K2O, and P2O5, S, Cl, with nearly constant ratios between these elements. These results are discussed in terms of segregation of various mantle-derived melts. The high and constant Mg# [100.Mg/(Mg+Fe2+)] 73-75 of studied melts and their variable Si, K, P, Ca, Al, S contents could be explained by the melting of a refractory lithospheric mantle source, heterogeneously enriched in phlogopite and clinopyroxene (veined mantle source).  相似文献

The garnet-cordierite zone, the highest-grade zone of the Ryoke metamorphic rocks in the Yanai district, SW Japan, is defined by the coexistence of garnet and cordierite in pelitic rocks. Three assemblages in this zone are studied in detail, i.e. spinel + cordierite + biotite, garnet + cordierite + biotite and garnet + biotite, all of which contain quartz, K-feldspar and plagioclase. The Mg/(Fe + Mg) in the coexisting minerals decreases in the following order: cordierite, biotite, garnet and spinel. Two facts described below are inconsistent with the paragenetic relation in the K2OFeOMgOAl2O3SiO2H2O (KFMASH) system in terms of an isophysical variation. First, garnet and biotite in the last assemblage have Mg/(Fe + Mg) higher than those in the second. Second, the first two assemblages are described by the reaction,
while they occur in a single outcrop. The addition of MnO, ZnO and TiO2 to the system can resolve the inconsistencies as follows. The assemblage garnet + biotite can consist of garnet and biotite higher in Mg/(Fe + Mg) than those in garnet + cordierite + biotite as long as they are enriched in spessartine and depleted in Al, respectively. The assemblage garnet + cordierite + biotite becomes stable relative to spinel + cordierite + biotite with increasing spessartine content or decreasing gahnite content and the Ti content of biotite. The constituent minerals of the assemblages, spinel + cordierite + biotite and garnet + cordierite + biotite, preserve several reaction microstructures indicative of prograde reactions,

This suggests that the pressure-temperature path of the rocks includes an isobaric heating and an isobaric or decompressional cooling. The high-grade areas consisting of the K-feldspar-cordierite zone, sillimanite-K-feldspar zone and garnet-cordierite zone have prograde paths involving isobaric heating and show a southwards increase in pressure with a thermal maximum in the middle. These high-grade zones are closely associated with the gneissose granitic rocks, suggesting that the Ryoke metamorphism, one of the typical low-pressure type, is caused by the heat supply from the syn-tectonic granitic rocks that emplaced at the middle level of the crust. The main hole (MH), and pre-pilot holes PP1, and PP3 of the Chinese Continental Scientific Drilling Project (CCSD) penetrated three different garnet peridotite bodies in the Sulu ultrahigh pressure (UHP) metamorphic belt, which are 80 m, 120 m, and 430 m thick, respectively. The bodies occur as tectonic blocks hosted in eclogite (MH peridotite) and gneisses (PP1 and PP3 peridotites). The peridotites in the MH are garnet wehrlites, whose protoliths were ultramafic cumulates based on olivine compositions (Fo79-89) and other geochemical features. Zoned garnet and omphacite (with 4-5 wt.% Na2O) are typical metamorphic minerals in these rocks, and, along with P-T estimates based on mineral pairs, suggest that the rocks have undergone UHP metamorphism. SHRIMP U-Pb isotope dating of zircon from the garnet wehrlite yielded a Paleozoic protolith age (ca. 346-461 Ma), and a Mesozoic UHP metamorphic age (ca. 220-240 Ma). The peridotites in PP1 consist of interlayered garnet (Grt)-bearing and garnet-free (GF) peridotite. Both types of peridotite have depleted mantle compositions (Mg# = 90-92) and they display transitional geochemical features. The intercalated layers probably reflect variations in partial melting rather than pressure variations during metamorphism, and the garnets may have been formed by exsolution from orthopyroxene during exhumation. These peridotites were probably part of the mantle wedge above the subduction zone that produced the UHP metamorphism and thus belonged to the North China Block before its tectonic emplacement. The exhumation of the subducted Yangtze Block brought these mantle fragments to shallow crustal levels. The ultramafic rocks in PP3 are dominantly dunite with minor garnet dunite. Their high Mg# (92-93) and relatively uniform chemical compositions indicate that they are part of a depleted mantle sequence. The presence of garnet replacing spinel and enclosing pre-metamorphic minerals such as olivine, clinopyroxene and spinel suggests that these rocks have undergone progressive metamorphism. SHRIMP U-Pb isotope dating of zircon from these rocks yielded two age groups: 726 ± 56 Ma for relic magmatic zircon grains and 240 ± 2.7 Ma for the newly formed metamorphic zircon. The older group is similar in age to granitic intrusions within the Dabie-Sulu belt, suggesting that the PP3 garnet peridotite may record the early emplacement of the peridotite into the crust. The younger dates coincide with the age of UHP metamorphism during continent-continent collision between the Yangtze and North China Blocks, suggesting that these peridotites were subducted to depths equivalent to the coesite facies and later exhumed. Thus, the garnet peridotites in the CCSD cores include both ultramafic rocks that existed originally in the subducted plate and rocks from the mantle wedge above the subducted plate, i.e., part of the North China Block.  相似文献
