A 2-D time-domain numerical coupled model is developed to obtain an efficient method for nonlinear wave forces on a fixed box-shaped ship in a harbor. The domain is divided into an inner domain and an outer domain. The inner domain is the area beneath the ship and the flow is described by the simplified Euler equations. The other area is the outer domain and the flow is defined by the higher-order Boussinesq equations in order to consider the nonlinearity of the wave motions.Along the interface boundaries between the inner domain and the outer domain, the volume flux is assumed to be continuous and the wave pressures are equal.Relevant physical experiment is conducted to validate the present model. It is shown that the numerical results agree with the experimental data.Compared with the coupled model with the flow in the inner domain governed by the Laplace equation, the present coupled model is more efficient and its solution procedure is more simple, which is particularly useful for the study on the effect of the nonlinear wave forces on a fixed box-shaped ship in a large harbor.  相似文献

In this paper, a superposition of two periodic wave profiles in a finite water depth was investigated. This paper is focused on the improvement of a wave profile on the linear superposition of two waves. This improvement was realized by introducing an iterative method, which was based on a fixed point approach. Application of the fixed point approach to the wave superposition made it possible to obtain a wave profile of wave–wave interaction. The improved result of the wave profile was in good agreement with that of the nonlinear perturbation solution of the second order. It was interesting that the improved result revealed the higher-order nonlinear frequencies for two interacting Stokes waves while Dalzell's solution by a perturbation method could not predict them.  相似文献

The coupled system of two side-by-side fixed and/or floating bodies interacting with a large amplitude nonlinear wave is studied using a direct time domain solution method. The numerical model is based on a three-dimensional mixed Eulerian–Lagrangian (MEL) method under certain simplifying approximations permitting Rankine panel scheme to be implemented over a time-invariant boundary surface to solve the boundary value problem for the unknown velocity potentials. A 4th order Adams–Bashforth–Moulton scheme is used for time marching of rigid-body motion histories of the individual bodies and evolution of the free-surface including the gap region in which large resonant fluid motions occur. A systematic study has been carried out to evaluate the performance of the developed time domain method in simulating the forces and motions as well as the fluid motion in the gap region for the two body system under various arrangements and in different wave-headings. At first, the computed numerical results have been validated and verified with computational and experimental results available in literature for standard geometries such as vertical truncated cylinders and rectangular boxes. Secondly, effectiveness of the damping lid model which is introduced to suppress wave resonance in the gap region is investigated including its influence on maximum sway forces on fixed and floating rectangular barges in side-by-side configurations. Thirdly, comparative studies on absolute and relative motion response for two cases (two rectangular barges, and a FLNG-FPSO + shuttle tanker) in side-by-side arrangement are detailed to bring out the importance of nonlinearities arising due to steep nonlinear incident waves. Finally, coupled motions of the two-body system of an FPSO and a shuttle tanker floating in side-by-side configuration in a steep nonlinear wave field are studied in which the two bodies are connected through hawsers, and also the FPSO is moored to the ground. Additionally there is a fender between the two bodies.  相似文献

A new six Degree Of Freedom (6DOF) motion measurement technique for small-scale physical models of floating bodies is presented, based on analysis of image sequence from one camera. The proposed system consists of one camera and one target: the method estimates the 3-D rigid motion following the time evolution of the target of known pattern fixed to the moving body and framed by the camera. In particular, the rotation matrix and the translation vector of the 3-D rigid motion between initial still position and a generic moved position are calculated by assuming the existence of a planar homography between the camera CCD plane and the plane passing through the flat target surface. Geometrical relationship allows one the calculation of wanted 6DOFs for every point of the modeled body. In the paper, the method is mathematically presented in terms of equations of rigid motion with its associate accuracies. The image-based technique is illustrated on some tests carried out in an experimental multipurpose wave basin.

A numerical method for non-hydrostatic, free-surface, irrotational flow governed by the nonlinear shallow water equations including the effects of vertical acceleration is presented at the aim of studying surf zone phenomena. A vertical boundary-fitted grid is used with the water depth divided into a number of layers. A compact finite difference scheme is employed for accurate computation of frequency dispersion requiring a limited vertical resolution and hence, capable of predicting the onset of wave breaking. A novel wet–dry algorithm is applied for a proper handling of moving shoreline. Mass and momentum are strictly conserved at discrete level while the method only dissipates energy in the case of wave breaking. The numerical results are verified with a number of tests and show that the proposed model using two layers without ad-hoc assumptions enables to resolve propagating nonlinear shoaling, breaking waves and wave run-up within the surf and swash zones in an efficient manner.  相似文献

A run-up of irregular long sea waves on a beach with a constant slope is studied within the framework of the nonlinear shallow-water theory. This problem was solved earlier for deterministic waves, both periodic and pulse ones, using the approach based on the Legendre transform. Within this approach, it is possible to get an exact solution for the displacement of a moving shoreline in the case of irregular-wave run-up as well. It is used to determine statistical moments of run-up characteristics. It is shown that nonlinearity in a run-up wave does not affect the velocity moments of the shoreline motion but influences the moments of mobile shoreline displacement. In particular, the randomness of a wave field yields an increase in the average water level on the shore and decrease in standard deviation. The asymmetry calculated through the third moment is positive and increases with the amplitude growth. The kurtosis calculated through the fourth moment turns out to be positive at small amplitudes and negative at large ones. All this points to the advantage of the wave run-up on the shore as compared to a backwash at least for small-amplitude waves, even if an incident wave is a Gaussian stationary process with a zero mean. The probability of wave breaking during run-up and the applicability limits for the derived equations are discussed.  相似文献

Internal wave generation in an improved two-dimensional Boussinesq model   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A set of Boussinesq-type equations with improved linear frequency dispersion in deeper water is solved numerically using a fourth order accurate predictor-corrector method. The model can be used to simulate the evolution of relatively long, weakly nonlinear waves in water of constant or variable depth provided the bed slope is of the same order of magnitude as the frequency dispersion parameter. By performing a linearized stability analysis, the phase and amplitude portraits of the numerical schemes are quantified, providing important information on practical grid resolutions in time and space. In contrast to previous models of the same kind, the incident wave field is generated inside the fluid domain by considering the scattered wave field in one part of the fluid domain and the total wave field in the other. Consequently, waves leaving the fluid domain are absorbed almost perfectly in the boundary regions by employment of damping terms in the mass and momentum equations. Additionally, the form of the incident regular wave field is computed by a Fourier approximation method which satisfies the governing equations accurately in water of constant depth. Since the Fourier approximation method requires an Eulerian mean current below wave trough level or a net mass transport velocity to be specified, the method can be used to study the interaction of waves and currents in closed as well as open basins. Several computational examples are given. These illustrate the potential of the wave generation method and the capability of the developed model.  相似文献

This paper presents CCHE2D-NHWAVE, a depth-integrated non-hydrostatic finite element model for simulating nearshore wave processes. The governing equations are a depth-integrated vertical momentum equation and the shallow water equations including extra non-hydrostatic pressure terms, which enable the model to simulate relatively short wave motions, where both frequency dispersion and nonlinear effects play important roles. A special type of finite element method, which was previously developed for a well-validated depth-integrated free surface flow model CCHE2D, is used to solve the governing equations on a partially staggered grid using a pressure projection method. To resolve discontinuous flows, involving breaking waves and hydraulic jumps, a momentum conservation advection scheme is developed based on the partially staggered grid. In addition, a simple and efficient wetting and drying algorithm is implemented to deal with the moving shoreline. The model is first verified by analytical solutions, and then validated by a series of laboratory experiments. The comparison shows that the developed wave model without the use of any empirical parameters is capable of accurately simulating a wide range of nearshore wave processes, including propagation, breaking, and run-up of nonlinear dispersive waves and transformation and inundation of tsunami waves.  相似文献

An Explicit High Resolution Scheme for Nonlinear Shallow Water Equations   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The present study develops a numerical model of the two-dimensional fully nonlinear shallow water equations (NSWE) for the wave run-up on a beach. The finite volume method (FVM) is used to solve the equations, and a second-order explicit scheme is developed to improve the computation efficiency. The numerical fluxes are obtained by the two dimensional Roe' s flux function to overcome the errors caused by the use of one dimensional fluxes in dimension splitting methods. The high-resolution Godunov-type TVD upwind scheme is employed and a second-order accuracy is achieved based on monotonic upstream schemes for conservation laws (MUSCL) variable extrapolation; a nonlinear limiter is applied to prevent unwanted spurious oscillation. A simple but efficient technique is adopted to deal with the moving shoreline boundary. The verification of the solution technique is carried out by comparing the model output with documented results and it shows that the solution technique is robust.  相似文献

The development of an analytic model (Axisymmetric 3-D Step Model) for the propagation of linear water waves over an axisymmetric bathymetric anomaly in arbitrary water depth is presented. The Axisymmetric 3-D Step Model is valid in a region of uniform depth containing an axisymmetric bathymetric anomaly with gradual transitions in depth allowed as a series of steps approximating arbitrary slopes. The velocity potential is calculated by applying matching conditions at the interface between regions of constant depth. The velocity potential obtained determines the wave field in the domain for monochromatic incident waves of linear form. A second analytic model (3-D Shallow Water Exact Model) is developed for comparison within the shallow water limit. The Axisymmetric 3-D Step Model determines the wave transformation caused by the processes of wave refraction, diffraction and reflection. Wave transformation is demonstrated in plots of the relative amplitude for bathymetric anomalies in the form of pit or a shoal, highlighting areas of wave sheltering and wave focusing. Anomalies of constant volume, but variable cross-section are employed to isolate the effect of the transition slope on the wave transformation.Comparisons to a shallow water model, numerical models, and experimental data verify the results of the Axisymmetric 3-D Step Model for several bathymetries including both pits and shoals. Also included are estimates of the energy reflection induced by an axisymmetric depth anomaly. The 3-D Axisymmetric Step Model has been applied previously to account for nearshore transformation (sloping bathymetry) and associated shoreline changes [C.J. Bender, R.G. Dean, Coastal Engineering 51 (2004) 1143].  相似文献

-A nonlinear model of mean free surface of waves or wave set-up is presented. The model isbased on that of Roelvink(1993),but the numerical techniques used in the solution are based on theWeighted-Average Flux(WAF)method(Watson et al,1992),with Time-Operator-Splitting(TOS)usedfor the treatment of the source terms. This method allows a small number of computational points to beused, and is particularly efficient in modeling wave set-up.The short wave(or primary wave)energy equa-tion is solved by use of a more traditional Lax-Wendroff technique.A nonlinear wave theory(James,1974)is introduced. The model described in this paper is found to be satisfactory in most respects whencompared with the measurements conducted by Stive(1983)except in modeling the mean free surface veryclose to the mean shoreline.  相似文献

In this paper, we report on the use of a numerical wave tank (NWT), based on fully nonlinear potential flow (FNPF) equations, in driving simulations of flow and sediment transport around partially buried obstacles. The suspended sediment transport is modeled in the near-field in a Navier-Stokes (NS) model using an immersed-boundary method and an attached sediment transport simulation module. Turbulence is represented by large eddy simulation (LES). The NWT is based on a higher order boundary element method (BEM), with an explicit second-order time stepping. Hence, only the NWT boundary is discretized. The solution for the velocity potential and its derivatives along the boundary is obtained in the BEM, which subsequently provides a solution at any required internal point within the domain. At initial time, the NS-LES model domain is initialized with the 3-D velocity field provided by the NWT and driven for later time by the pressure gradient field obtained in the NWT. Incident wave fields, as specified in the NWT to drive sediment transport, can be arbitrary. Applications are presented here for single frequency waves, such as produced by a harmonic piston wavemaker in the laboratory, and modulated frequency wave groups. The feasibility of coupling the irrotational flow and NS solutions is demonstrated.  相似文献

Wave prediction in a port using a fully nonlinear Boussinesq wave model   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A wave forecasting system using FUNWAVE-TVD which is based on the fully nonlinear Boussinesq equations by Chen(2006) was developed to provide an accurate wave prediction in the Port of Busan, South Korea. This system is linked to the Korea Operational Oceanographic System(KOOS) developed by Park et al.(2015). The computational domain covers a region of 9.6 km×7.0 km with a grid size of 2 m in both directions, which is sufficient to resolve short waves and dominant sea states. The total number of grid points exceeds 16 millions, making the model computational expensive. To provide real-time forecasting, an interpolation method, which is based on pre-calculated results of FUNWAVE-TVD and SWAN forecasting results at the FUNWAVE-TVD offshore boundary, was used. A total of 45 cases were pre-calculated, which took 71 days on 924 computational cores of a Linux cluster system. Wind wave generation and propagation from the deep water were computed using the SWAN in KOOS. SWAN results provided a boundary condition for the FUNWAVE-TVD forecasting system. To verify the model, wave observations were conducted at three locations inside the port in a time period of more than 7 months. A model/model comparison between FUNWAVE-TVD and SWAN was also carried out. It is found that, FUNWAVE-TVD improves the forecasting results significantly compared to SWAN which underestimates wave heights in sheltered areas due to incorrect physical mechanism of wave diffraction, as well as large wave heights caused by wave reflections inside the port.  相似文献

The purpose of the study was to develop a prediction technique to simulate the motion response of a damaged platform under wave, wind and current forces. The equations of motion were obtained using Newton's second law and the numerical solution technique of non-linear equations of motion is explained for intact and damaged cases. The analysis technique employs large displacement non-linear equations of motion. Solutions were obtained in the time-domain to predict the motion characteristics. In this study, analysis procedures were developed to calculate: (a) wave loading on asymmetrical structural configurations; (b) hydrodynamic reaction forces (inertia or moment of inertia, damping and restoring forces) on asymmetrical shapes. During the damage simulation, change in the mass of the structure as well as wave and hydrodynamic reaction forces, were taken into account. The computer program developed for the time-domain simulation is introduced. In order to avoid slowly decaying transient motions of the structure due to wave excitation forces, an exponential ramp function is used. The application of a ramp function enables a quick convergence in the time-domain solution of equations of motion. Results of a numerical motion simulation program and the experimental studies are also presented in order to make comparisons. Comparison of the test results with the numerical simulations shows good agreement for heave, roll and pitch motions. The formulations and the computational procedures given in this paper provide useful tools for the investigation of the non-linear dynamic stability characteristics of floating structures in waves for intact, damaged and post-flooding conditions in six-degrees of freedom.  相似文献

The behavior of a highly deformable membrane to ocean waves was studied by coupling a nonlinear boundary element model of the fluid domain to a nonlinear finite element model of the membrane. The hydrodynamic loadings induced by water waves are computed assuming large body hydrodynamics and ideal fluid flow and then solving the transient diffraction/radiation problem. Either linear waves or finite amplitude waves can be assumed in the model and thus the nonlinear kinematic and dynamic free surface boundary conditions are solved iteratively. The nonlinear nature of the boundary condition requires a time domain solution. To implicitly include time in the governing field equation, Volterra's method was used. The approach is the same as the typical boundary element method for a fluid domain where the governing field equation is the starting point. The difference is that in Volterra's method the time derivative of the governing field equation becomes the starting point. The boundary element model was then coupled through an iterative process to a finite element model of membrane structures. The coupled model predicts the nonlinear interaction of nonlinear water waves with highly deformable bodies. To verify the coupled model a large scale test was conducted in the OH Hinsdale wave Research Laboratory at Oregon State University on a 3-ft-diameter fabric cylinder submerged in the wave tank. The model data verified the numerical prediction of the structure displacements and of the changes in the wave field. The boundary element model is an ideal modeling technique for modeling the fluid domain when the governing field equations is the Laplace equation. In this case the nonlinear boundary element model was coupled with a finite element model of membrane structures, but the model could have been coupled with other finite element models of more rigid structures, such as a pontoon floating breakwater.  相似文献
