The impact of volcanic eruptions on forest ecosystems can be investigated using dendrochronological records. While long-range effects are usually mediated by decreased air temperatures, resulting in frost rings or reduced maximum latewood density, local effects include abrupt suppression of radial growth, occasionally followed by greater than normal growth rates. Annual rings in Mexican mountain pine (Pinus hartwegii Lindl.) on Nevado de Colima, at the western end of the Mexican Neovolcanic Belt, indicate extremely low growth in 1913 and 1914, following the January 1913 Plinian eruption of Volcán de Fuego, 7.7 km to the south. That event, which is listed among the largest explosive eruptions since A.D. 1500, produced ashflow deposits up to 40 m thick and blanketed our study area on Nevado de Colima with a tephra fallout 15–30 cm deep. Radial growth reduction in 1913–14 was ≥30% in 73% of the sampled trees. We geostatistically investigated the ecological impact of the eruption by mapping the decrease in xylem increment and found no evidence of a spatial structure in growth reduction. Little information has been available to date on forest species as biological archives of past environments in the North American tropics, yet this historical case study suggests that treeline tropical sites hold valuable records of prehistoric phenomena, including volcanic eruptions.  相似文献

A procedure for validating landslide susceptibility maps wasapplied in a study area in northern Spain and the results obtained compared. Validationwas used to carry out sensitivity analysis for individual variables and combinationsof variables. The validity of different map-making methods was tested, as well as theutility of different types of Favourability Functions. The results obtained show thatvalidation is essential to determine the predictive value of susceptibility maps. Italso helps to better select the most suitable function and significant variables, thus improving the efficiency of the mapping process. Validation based on a temporal strategy makes it possible to derive hazard maps from susceptibility maps.  相似文献

首先利用旱涝Z指数对全国9大气候区的旱涝进行了评定,并给出我国9大气候区旱涝Z指数的分布图。分析结果表明,1950年代我国除新疆地区处于偏早期外,其它几个区都处于多雨量期,1960年代由多雨向少雨转变的时期,1970年代——1980年代中期我国大部分地区处于雨量偏少期;1990年之后我国各个区的雨量都有所增加。此外,还应用Morlet小波变化对我国9大气候区降水的旱涝周期变化、旱涝分型及变化趋势进行了分析。研究结果表明:在16年、32年层次变化上,各气候区在不同时间段上,8年层次上降水的变化出现了一定的规律:东北、华北在1980年之后存在1年位相差;而长江中下游、江南及华南三者之间在1951~1970年时段上依次有着2年的位相差;长江中下游、内蒙及新疆之间依次存在着3年位相差。  相似文献

为寻求地震活动演化的统计判据,本文采用多项式拟合法展示地震时序谱之涨落谱,以分维函数法判断最小邻间距(NNS)分布的Poisson性,然后采用MKS无参量法判别涨落谱之统计稳定性,确定NNS分布的转变区,具体研讨了四川、云南若干震区地震活动时序谱的涨落统计分布,发现地震活跃期到来时NNS分布表现出非Poisson化的特征。进一步通过改变和调节时序数据样本集之震级下限,并逐段前推进行统计计算的方式进一步验证结果的可靠性,客观地确定了这些震区地震活动时序涨落谱统计特征的转变期,使根据该统计法判断地震活跃期的方法论渐趋完善。  相似文献

The buried Chicxulub impact structure is marked by a dramatic ring of sinkholes (called cenotes if containing water), and adjacent less prominent partial rings, which have been shown to coincide with maxima in horizontal gravity gradients and a topographic depression. These observations, along with the discreteness and spacing of the features, suggest a formation mechanism involving faulting in the outer slump zone of the crater, which would thus have a diameter of approximately 180 km.
An opposing view, based primarily on the interpretation of gravity data, is that (he crater is much larger than the cenote ring implies. Given the association of the known cenote ring with faults, we here examine northern Yucatan for similar rings in gravity, surface features and elevation, which we might expect to be associated with outer concentric faults in the case of a larger, possibly multiring, structure.
No such outer rings have been found, although definite patterns are seen in the distribution of karst features outside the crater rim. We explain these patterns as resulting mainly from deformation related to the block fault zone that parallels tbe shelf edge of eastern Yucatan.  相似文献

We analysed nest site selection in two shrub-steppe larks, the lesser short-toed larkCalandrella rufescensand the Thekla larkGalerida theklae. Both species nest on the ground next to a bush preferably facing north or north-east. Nestling growth and fledging weight are greater when the nest faces these directions. Both species prefer to nest next to camephytes with little foliage, and the lesser short-toed lark chooses sites with high visibility. We conclude that sunlight and nest predation are fundamental selective pressures determining nest microhabitat selection in larks in semi-arid areas.  相似文献

To determine if defoliation of a woody plant affects foraging by folivorous insects, we examined the infection rate (number of leaves damaged per total number of leaves sampled on marked stems) ofAnthyllis cytisoidesunder three experimental treatments: 10, 50 and 90% plant defoliation. Observations were made for three age classes, established by trunk base perimeter (equal to or lower than 11 cm, between 11 and 20 cm, larger than 20 cm). Plants respond positively to artificial defoliation by increasing total vegetative length of the stem and total inflorescence length. This response is most evident in young individuals.Response to herbivory was measured as overall infection rate and also as infection rate by different feeding guilds—chewing, mining, or sucking insects. We found that increased defoliation elicited increased resistance of leaves to insect attack. This was particularly evident in young plants. Different insect guilds respond in different ways. Attack by chewing insects declines with defoliation for all plant age classes; only sucking insects which feed on the oldest plants reduce feeding rate with plant defoliation. Finally, mining insects present the opposite trend in young and senescent plants.  相似文献

南黄海潮成辐射砂脊群的面积约为20000km2,以160° 的角度从弓京港向海展开。它与以弓京港为顶点的辐聚辐散潮流场相伴而生。60余个钻孔揭示,毗邻海区辐射砂脊体系的江苏沿岸平原上存在一个面积约3000 km2潮成砂区,其顶点位于东台,同样呈扇形以130°的角度向东展开。在潮成砂区内潮成砂质沉积单元位于冰后期海侵型砂坝-湖沉积层之上,二者之间具明显的冲刷面。砂坝-湖沉积层位于晚更新世基底硬粘土层之上,二者之间有较长的沉积间断。潮成砂沉积层上覆潮坪沉积层,二者呈渐变关系。以潮成砂层底部的侵蚀面为界,其下为海侵序列,其上为海退序列。古潮流的研究揭示,潮成砂区内同样存在辐聚辐散的古潮流场,其顶点位于东台附近。由此推断,沿海平原的潮成砂区内也是辐射状潮成砂脊体系,它形成于全新世海退时期。由于长江和黄河三角洲的前展,以东台为顶点的潮成砂脊体系逐渐暴露成陆。陆上和海域潮成辐射砂脊群形成于相同的潮汐动力环境,但处在不同的发育阶段,前者形成于全新世中期,后者发育于全新世晚期。矿物分析揭示,陆上和海区的潮成辐射砂脊体系主要由长江和黄河沉积物组成,其中长江沉积物由南向北运移,且时间较早;黄河沉积物由北向南运移,时间较迟,这种泥沙的运移趋势一直延续至今。随着海平面上升趋于减缓,长江三角洲增长,江苏海岸线向外推进,苏北潮成砂区逐渐出露成陆。1128年黄河由苏北入海,大量的黄河沉积物的加入,加快了本区海岸线的推进速度。潮成辐射砂脊体系与辐聚辐散的潮流场相伴而生,全新世最大海侵以来,辐聚辐散的潮流场的位置曾经历三次变化,第一次以长江古河口湾为顶点,第二次位于现今陆上潮成砂区,第三次位于以弓京港为顶点的现代海域,代表了潮成辐射砂脊体系发育的三个阶段。只是长江古河口湾的潮成辐射砂脊体系由于河流的巨大改造作用,可能未很好保存,至今未发现典型的辐射砂脊体系。  相似文献

通过室内中型剪切摩擦试验确定桩与地层间的C、Φ值,依据莫尔—库仑准则确定桩侧摩阻力。桩侧法向应力采用桩土上部荷载引起的作用于桩身的侧向应力,桩端承载力通过室内三轴试验确定,两者之和即为单桩承载力。该方法用于肇源松花江大桥桩基承载力的测试,得出的桩承载力与实测值吻合较好,取得了预期的效果。  相似文献
