In this paper we explore the motivations to migrate and the migration experiences of 22 Indian IT professionals in Germany. When studying skilled migration, Germany is an interesting case as it struggled with waves of extreme right activities whilst trying to attract IT professionals from outside the European Union at the same time. In this context, we are interested in the conflicts that the migrants may experience as a result of their desire or obligation to move, their specific cultural baggage and the way in which they encounter the different sides of German society.  相似文献

对(Mgx,Ni1-x)2GeO4系统中橄榄石-尖晶石两相混合物的流变性进行了实验研究.利用不同温压条件对混合物进行热压,得到的橄榄石和尖晶石的比例不同.温度为1 573K,试件的化学组成从x=0.95-0.70时,得到的两相材料从100%橄榄石到100%尖晶石.三轴压缩试件为圆柱状,直径8mm,两相混合物的平均颗粒尺寸为2.21-9.43μm.流变学试验在气体介质试验机中进行,围压为300MPa,温度为1 073-1 573K.试验分为常应力和常位移率两种,差应力σ1-σ3为45-320MPa,应变率在2.8×10-6-2.8×10-5s-1之间,将实验测得的混合物力学性质与两端材料的强度进行对比,发现两相多晶介质的强度介于两端材料的强度之间.当橄榄石到尖晶石的相变发生在变形过程中时,尖晶石比率的增加使得多晶材料的总体强度上升.  相似文献

The redox speciation of dissolved iron in seawater was evaluated at 121 locations in the Pacific Ocean at depths of 15-1000 m, using the method of luminol chemiluminescence. The results indicate that reduced iron, Fe(II), is ubiquitous in surface seawater with a relatively consistent pattern of occurrence. Surface maxima were present in most profiles, with median concentrations of 25-30 pM representing 12-14% of the total dissolved iron. Concentrations decreased monotonically with depth to<12 pM within the upper euphotic zone. This pattern was observed during both day and nighttime sampling events, which suggests that non-photochemical production mechanisms can produce photochemical-like signatures. Further, if theoretical rates of Fe(II) oxidation are applicable to the open ocean, then the employed sampling methods precluded assessment of photochemically-produced Fe(II), regardless of ambient light conditions. For this and other reasons, the concentrations reported here for the upper water column likely represent lower limits of labile iron concentration, and suggest that dissolved iron may be more available for uptake than previously believed. Deeper in the water column, Fe(II) was also frequently detected, though it constituted a small fraction of the total dissolved iron. Possible source mechanisms at these depths include thermal (dark) reduction of Fe(III) organic complexes or remineralization of sinking biogenic particles containing Fe(II). In the northern Philippine Sea between the Japanese coast and the Izu-Bonin volcanic arc system, Fe(II) concentrations were found to be atypically high, possibly because of high atmospheric dust deposition near the surface and transport of sediment-derived iron at depth.  相似文献

The gas permeability of volcanic rocks may influence various eruptive processes. The transition from a quiescent degassing dome to rock failure (fragmentation) may, for example, be controlled by the rocks permeability, in as much as it affects the speed by which a gas overpressure in vesicles is reduced in response to decompression. Using a modified shock-tube-based fragmentation bomb (Alidibirov and Dingwell 1996a,b; Spieler et al. 2003a), we have measured unsteady-state permeability at a high initial pressure differential. Following sudden decompression above the rock cylinder, pressurized gas flows through the sample. Two pressure transducers record the pressure signals above and below the sample. A transient 1D filtration code has been developed to calculate permeability using the experimental decay curve of the lower pressure transducer. Additionally an analytical steady-state method to achieve permeability is presented as an alternative to swiftly predict the sample permeability in a sufficiently precise manner. Over 100 permeability measurements have been performed on samples covering a wide range of porosity. The results show a general positive relationship between porosity and permeability with a high data scatter. Our preferred interpretation of the results is a combination of two different, but overlapping effects. We propose that at low porosities, gas escape occurs predominantly through microcracks or elongated micropores and therefore could be described by simplified forms of Kozeny–Carman relations (Carman 1956) and fracture flow models. At higher porosities, the influence of vesicles becomes progressively stronger as they form an increasingly connected network. Therefore, a model based on the percolation theory of fully penetrable spheres is used, as a first approximation, to describe the permeability-porosity trend. In the data acquired to date it is evident, that in addition to the porosity control, the samples bubble size, shape and distribution strongly influence the permeability. This leads to a range of permeability values up to 2.5 orders of magnitude at a given porosity.  相似文献

A new installation for the analysis of picomole quantities of nitrogen has been designed and constructed. It permits the simultaneous analysis of N and rare gases extracted from silicates by heating. The extraction procedure involves the use of a CO2 laser as a heater, and the analysis is made by static mass spectrometry using a high sensitivity, high resolution mass spectrometer. Procedural blanks of 2 picomoles N2 (60 picogram N) allow us to analyse routinely N in mg-sized samples such as mantle-derived and meteoritic minerals, and Lunar soil grains.  相似文献

The Cryogenian to Uppermost Ediacaran successions of the Tandilia System (Sierras Bayas Group and Cerro Negro Formation) in central-eastern Argentina is exceptional because of its unmetamorphosed and nearly undeformed character, its sediment provenance trend and the absence of any identified glacial deposit and the deposition of warm water carbonates. We decipher a dramatic change in the basin evolution from small-scale depositional areas during the Neoproterozoic to a larger basin related to an active continental margin throughout the Uppermost Ediacaran. The base of the succession is represented by immature detritus of alkaline composition (Villa Mónica Formation), but towards the top of this formation, the material is sorted and reworked, nonetheless still reflecting in its detritus the local rocks. The clastic deposition is interrupted by diagenetic overprinted dolomites. The unconformable overlying quartz-arenitic Ediacaran Cerro Largo Formation reworked the Cryogenian Villa Mónica Formation and contains mainly felsic granitic and metamorphic basement material of slightly wider variety, while the dominant alkaline geochemical signature in rocks of the Villa Mónica Formation disappears. Based on diagenetic, petrographic and sedimentological data, we can interpret the unconformity representing a longer time of erosion. The Cerro Largo Formation shows a transition to mudstones and the heterolithic facies of the Olavarría Formation. The top of the Sierras Bayas Group is represented by limestones (Loma Negra Formation), which are discordantly overlain by the Uppermost Ediacaran Cerro Negro Formation. The latter displays detrital material derived from a continental arc, mafic and felsic sources. Several arc-related geochemical proxies (Th/Sc?<?0.8; Zr/Sc?<?10; La/Sc?<?2; Ti/Zr?>?20) are recorded in the sediment detritus, as are syn-depositional pyroclastites. The absence of volcanic material in the underlying rocks allows proposing that the Cerro Negro Formation is related to an active continental margin fringing Gondwana (??Terra Australis Orogen??) as a retro-arc or retro-arc foreland basin.  相似文献

In order to facilitate the understanding of the geological evolution of the Kalahari Craton and its relation to South America, the provenance of the first large-scale cratonic cover sequence of the craton, namely the Ordovician to Carboniferous Cape Supergroup was studied through geochemical analyses of the siliciclastics, and age determinations of detrital zircon. The Cape Supergroup comprises mainly quartz-arenites and a Hirnantian tillite in the basal Table Mountain Group, subgreywackes and mudrocks in the overlying Bokkeveld Group, while siltstones, interbedded shales and quartz-arenites are typical for the Witteberg Group at the top of the Cape Supergroup. Palaeocurrent analyses indicate transport of sediment mainly from northerly directions, off the interior of the Kalahari Craton with subordinate transport from a westerly source in the southwestern part of the basin near Cape Town. Geochemical provenance data suggest mainly sources from passive to active continental margin settings. The reconnaissance study of detrital zircons reveals a major contribution of Mesoproterozoic sources throughout the basin, reflecting the dominance of the Namaqua-Natal Metamorphic Belt, situated immediately north of the preserved strata of Cape Supergroup, as a source with Archaean-aged zircons being extremely rare. We interpret the Namaqua-Natal Metamorphic Belt to have been a large morphological divide at the time of deposition of the Cape Supergroup that prevented input of detrital zircons from the interior early Archaean Kaapvaal cratonic block of the Kalahari Craton. Neoproterozoic and Cambrian zircons are abundant and reflect the basement geology of the outcrops of Cape strata. Exposures close to Cape Town must have received sediment from a cratonic fragment that was situated off the Kalahari Craton to the west and that has subsequently drifted away. This cratonic fragment predominantly supplied Meso- to Neoproterozoic, and Cambrian-aged zircon grains in addition to minor Silurian to Lower Devonian zircons and very rare Archaean (2.5?Ga) and late Palaeoproterozoic (1.8-2.0?Ga) ones. No Siluro-Devonian source has yet been identified on the Kalahari Craton, but there are indications for such a source in southern Patagonia. Palaeozoic successions in eastern Argentina carry a similar detrital zircon population to that found here, including evidence of a Silurian to Lower Devonian magmatic event. The Kalahari and Río de la Plata Cratons were thus in all likelihood in close proximity until at least the Carboniferous.  相似文献

The Ordovician Ponón Trehué Formation is the only early Palaeozoic sedimentary sequence known to record a primary contact with the Grenvillian-age basement of the Argentinean Cuyania terrane, in its southwards extension named the San Rafael block. Petrographic and geochemical data indicate contributions from a dominantly upper continental crustal component and a subordinated depleted component. Nd isotopes indicate εNd of ? 4.6, ?Sm/Nd ? 0.36 and TDM 1.47 Ga in average. Pb-isotope ratios display average values for 206Pb/204Pb, 207Pb/204Pb, and 208Pb/204Pb of 19.15, 15.69 and 38.94 respectively. U–Pb detrital zircon ages from the Ponón Trehué Formation cluster around values of 1.2 Ga, indicating a main derivation from a local basement source (Cerro La Ventana Formation). The Upper Ordovician Pavón Formation records a younger episode of clastic sedimentation within the San Rafael block, and it shows a more complex detrital zircon age population (peaks at 1.1 and 1.4 Ga as well as Palaeoproterozoic and Neoproterozoic detrital grains). Detailed comparison between the two Ordovician clastic units indicates a shift with time in provenance from localized basement to more regional sources. Middle to early Upper Ordovician age is inferred for accretion of the Cuyania terrane to the proto-Andean margin of Gondwana.  相似文献

Water flow through a melting snow pack modifies its structure and stability and affects the release of water and nutrients into soils and surface waters. Field and laboratory observations indicate a large spatial variability on various scales of the liquid water content and flow, a dominant system feature currently not included in numerical models. We investigated experimentally water and dye tracer movement through microstructurally different snow pack horizons and the persistence of preferential flow paths. Naturally rounded snow of varying grain size was artificially packed to obtain well known conditions by sieving it into rectangular bins. Surface melt was induced with infrared lamps. The flow paths were visualized with tracers and liquid water content was monitored with time domain reflectometry probes. Vertical cuts through the snow pack were imaged. The dye tracer patterns allowed the two flow regimes ‘matrix flow’ and ‘preferential flow’ to be distinguished. Matrix flow is apparently dominated by film and capillary flow in the unsaturated snow matrix. The capillary barrier effect at a boundary between a fine over a coarse textured layer on matrix flow in snow was confirmed. In contrast, preferential flow appears as well‐defined flow fingers that advance from 0·1 to 1 cm s?1. During a melt phase, the advancing flow fingers enlarge and are only partially time invariant. It remains to be shown whether the continuum concept, including the Darcy–Buckingham law is apt to describe the extremely non‐linear nature of water flow and the travel time of solutes in snow under conditions of melt water percolation. Probably, snow packs that include faceted crystals and large variations in bulk density, feature more pronounced capillary barriers and preferential flow triggering, but also stronger impeding of fingers by lateral dispersion.
