We propose the nuclear geyser model to elucidate an optimal site to bear the first life.Our model overcomes the difficulties that previously proposed models have encountered.Nuclear geyser is a geyser driven by a natural nuclear reactor,which was likely common in the Hadean Earth,because of a much higher abundance of ~(235)U as nuclear fuel.The nuclear geyser supplies the following:(1)high-density ionizing radiation to promote chemical chain reactions that even tar can be used for intermediate material to restart chemical reactions,(2)a system to maintain the circulation of material and energy,which includes cyclic environmental conditions(warm/cool,dry/wet,etc.)to enable to produce complex organic compounds,(3)a lower temperature than 100℃ as not to break down macromolecular organic compounds,(4)a locally reductive environment depending on rock types exposed along the geyser wall,and(5)a container to confine and accumulate volatile chemicals.These five factors are the necessary conditions that the birth place of life must satisfy.Only the nuclear geyser can meet all five,in contrast to the previously proposed birth sites,such as tidal flat,submarine hydrothermal vent,and outer space.The nuclear reactor and associated geyser,which maintain the circulations of material and energy with its surrounding environment,are regarded as the nuclear geyser system that enables numerous kinds of chemical reactions to synthesize complex organic compounds,and where the most primitive metabolism could be generated. 相似文献

A simplified discrete system in the form of a simple oscillator is developed to simulate the dynamic behavior of a structure founded through footings or piles on compliant ground, under harmonic excitation. Exact analytical expressions for the fundamental natural period and the corresponding damping coefficients of the above system are derived, as function of geometry and the frequency-dependent foundation impedances. In an effort to quantify the coupling between swaying and rocking oscillations in embedded foundations such as piles, the reference system is translated from the footing–soil interface to the depth where the resultant soil reaction is applied, to ensure a diagonal impedance matrix. The resulting eccentricity is a measure of the coupling effect between the two oscillation modes. The amounts of radiation damping generated from a single pile and a surface footing are evaluated. In order to compare the damping of a structure on a surface footing and a pile, the notion of static and geometric equivalence is introduced. It is shown that a pile may generate significantly higher radiation damping than an equivalent footing, thus acting as an elementary protective system against seismic action. 相似文献

Scalar tensor (ST) theories of gravitation contain an attractor mechanism towards general relativity. The mechanism is supposed
to start back at time of inflation. Consequently the characteristic coupling function of the ST theories could attain a very
large value during the radiation epoch. Here ST cosmology in the radiation dominated universe is studied under such situation.
A general solution of the scale factor in the radiation dominated flat universe is obtained that is characterized by an additional
degree of freedom. An implication of this extra parameter is discussed.

We briefly review recent developments in black hole accretion disk theory, emphasizing the vital role played by magnetohydrodynamic
(MHD) stresses in transporting angular momentum. The apparent universality of accretion-related outflow phenomena is a strong
indicator that large-scale MHD torques facilitate vertical transport of angular momentum. This leads to an enhanced overall
rate of angular momentum transport and allows accretion of matter to proceed at an interesting rate. Furthermore, we argue
that when vertical transport is important, the radial structure of the accretion disk is modified at small radii and this
affects the disk emission spectrum. We present a simple model demonstrating how energetic, magnetically-driven outflows modify
the emergent disk emission spectrum with respect to that predicted by standard accretion disk theory. A comparison of the
predicted spectra against observations of quasar spectral energy distributions suggests that mass accretion rates inferred

We investigate the conductivity of warm dense helium under conditions found in the atmospheres of cool white dwarfs using
ab initio simulations. The calculations performed consist of quantum molecular dynamics simulations where the electronic wavefunction
at each time step is obtained using density functional theory, while the ion trajectories are calculated using the resulting
quantum mechanical forces. We use both conventional DFT (PW91) and hybrid (PBE0) functionals to calculate the conductivities
that provide an estimate of the ionization fraction. While the calculations are in good agreement with the measurements for
the equation of state, a significant discrepancy exists with the recently measured conductivity. 相似文献

The recent detection of very-high-energy (GeV – TeV) γ-ray emission from the Galactic black-hole candidate and microquasar LS 5039 has sparked renewed interest in jet models for
the high-energy emission in those objects. In this work, we have focused on models in which the high-energy emission results
from synchrotron and Compton emission by relativistic electrons in the jet (leptonic jet models). Particular attention has
been paid to a possible orbital modulation of the high-energy emission due to azimuthal asymmetries caused by the presence
of the companion star. Both orbital-phase dependentγγ absorption and Compton scattering of optical/UV photons from the companion star may lead to an orbital modulation of the
gamma-ray emission. We make specific predictions which should be testable with refined data from HESS and the upcoming GLAST

It has recently been realized that the Weibel instability plays a major role in the formation and dynamics of astrophysical
shocks of gamma-ray bursts and supernovae. Thanks to technological advances in the recent years, experimental studies of the
Weibel instability are now possible in laser-plasma interaction devices. We, thus, have a unique opportunity to model and
study astrophysical conditions in laboratory experiments – a key goal of the Laboratory Astrophysics program. Here we briefly
review the theory of strong non-magnetized collisionless GRB and SN shocks, emphasizing the crucial role of the Weibel instability
and discuss the properties of radiation emitted by (isotropic) electrons moving through the Weibel-generated magnetic fields,
which is referred to as the jitter radiation. We demonstrate that the jitter radiation field is anisotropic with respect to
the direction of the Weibel current filaments and that its spectral and polarization characteristics are determined by microphysical
plasma parameters. We stress that the spectral analysis can be used for accurate diagnostics of the plasma conditions in laboratory
experiments and in astrophysical GRB and SN shocks. 相似文献
