This article presents an overview of smart structures technologies in connection with long-span cable-supported bridges. Considering the broad scope of the smart structures technologies, two subareas, namely, structural health monitoring and structural control technologies, and their applications in long-span cable supported bridges, are identified as the focus of this review. It is believed that by, adopting the smart structures technologies, reliable operation and hazard management of long-span bridges can be achieved much more efficiently and can be made economically feasible, especially for bridges located at sites with high risks of severe natural hazardous events, such as those facing the bridges of the Taiwan Strait Crossing project. The feasibility of and practical issues in implementing the smart structures technologies in the design and construction of long-span cable-supported bridges are also discussed here. Considering the time span of the construction of the Taiwan Strait Crossing, some of the innovative technologies with a high potential for future long-span bridge applications, while still at the stage of exploratory research at the time of writing, are also examined as it is believed these technologies might have become prevalent by the completion time of the Taiwan Strait Crossing project.  相似文献

This article discusses the possible socioeconomic impact of Taiwan Strait Tunnel from the perspective of the relationship between the construction of Taiwan Strait Tunnel and the socioeconomic development of the two sides of the Taiwan Strait and the surrounding areas. First of all, the construction of Taiwan Strait Tunnel in its conceptual stage depends on the socioeconomic development of the two sides of the Strait. Important basic conditions—such as the mainland's and Taiwan's future sustainable economic growth above what has already been achieved; their further development of economic, trade, and social ties; their political dialogue based on “the principle of one China”; and the progress of the peaceful reunification of the motherland—will decide the construction of the Taiwan Strait Tunnel. Under such conditions, once the Taiwan Strait Tunnel is operable, it will create a huge demand pull on the two sides of the Taiwan Strait and their surrounding areas for a long period and, thus, will bring about a sustainable increasing economic upsurge in the two sides. Secondly, once the Taiwan Strait Tunnel is open to traffic, its transport ability will be tremendous and will greatly influence the economic development of the two sides of the Strait and enhance their economic and trade ties and their personnel exchange. At the same time, the tunnel will not only form a new traffic pattern of the two sides of the Taiwan Strait, but it will also improve their traffic structure and expand their traffic scale to a large extent. It is certain that the construction of Taiwan Strait Tunnel will be a highly complex project of an all-time grand scale to be constructed over quite a long period. It will encounter a lot more restrictive factors than have ever been met in the fields of design, programming, techniques, equipment, organization of construction, and the operation and maintenance of the tunnel and line. The necessity and the preliminary tentative plan for the construction of the undersea tunnel across Taiwan Strait are expounded in this atricle. The strait undersea tunnels, which have been built and investigated in the world, and their engineering characteristics and construction methods have been introduced herein briefly. Taiwan has been a part of China since ancient times and the people between the mainland and Taiwan are kindred compatriots in the extended family of the Chinese multinational country. For a long time, the people between southeast of China and Taiwan have had frequent communication in economy and culture. With the progress of times and the need of development, it has been put forward to build a safe and reliable undersea tunnel that is not affected by the environment across Taiwan Strait, and one which is also a magnificent project for the China in the long-term. Whether by using a bridge or an undersea tunnel or both across the strait is a problem worthy of further research. According to such conditions as the weather of Taiwan Strait, depth of water, undersea terrain, possibility of engineering and hydrological geology under the sea, as well as the possibility of Taiwan Strait as a main shipping passage from south to north of China and the experience of existing passage across strait in the world, the primary analysis shows that the scheme of an undersea tunnel should be considered. 受狭管效应的影响,台湾海峡波浪较大且常与涌浪混合存在。涌浪对包括船舶在内的浮式结构物有着重要的影响,而风涌浪分离是研究涌浪特性的必要前提,也一直是研究的热点和困难问题。由于数据的欠缺和观测条件的限制,在风涌浪分离方法中被普遍认可的二维谱方法常常难以使用,如何选择更为精准的一维谱方法往往会成为实际研究和应用过程中必须面对的问题。利用台湾海峡内3个具有二维谱数据的测站,通过将二维谱分离结果作为参考,针对台湾海峡风浪和涌浪的特征,探讨了风涌浪分离一维谱方法在该海域的适用性问题,研究表明风速法相较其他方法精度更好,在这一基础上提出了一种将波谱积分法与风速法相结合的一维谱方法。  相似文献

No direct site investigation (SI) data are available for the prospective Taiwan Strait connection project. Any quantitative analysis on the performance of a tunnel, a bridge, or of on-shore (or off-shore) connections needs reasonable geotechnical model parameters. Correlations between basic properties of marine soils and geotechnical model parameters have been established before by the first author based on a large amount of laboratory test data. The established correlations together with other relations considering main types of soils in the Taiwan Strait region are used to estimate the geotechnical model parameters of the marine soils. These correlations and estimated values of the geotechnical parameters of the marine soils are presented and discussed in this article. The estimated geotechnical model parameters can be used for a preliminary analysis of the performance of geotechnical structures of the prospective project.  相似文献

晚更新世是全球气候环境与海陆变迁频繁的重要地质时期.通过对上世纪80年代采集的活塞柱状样(长度〈6.5111)的分析研究,曾提出晚更新世台湾海峡存在“金门海侵”、“福州海侵”、“海峡海侵”3次海侵.为提高台湾海峡第四纪地质研究和认知水平,本文探讨了3次“海侵”的立论依据,认为现有柱状样沉积层是晚更新世一全新世的浅表层沉积.台湾海峡具有开放性沉积条件,该浅表层沉积层的”c年龄数据应用于地层年代可能偏老.此3次“海侵”地层划分依据不足,存在疑点,尤其是“海峡海侵”.台湾海峡海底已发现数量及种类丰富的晚更新世各气候带陆生哺乳类动物遗骨,并有古人类遗骨化石,这些表明台湾海峡海底在玉木冰期鼎盛时期曾经出露成陆,并可能成为东亚大陆东缘冰期海退的海滨平原上,惟一有各种气候带古动物与古人类的生存地和避难地。  相似文献

本文主要论述了台湾海峡及其两岸地震和地热的各自特征以及它们之间的关系。该地区的4个北东向地震带刻划了各个块体的相互关系。台东地震带的震源机制解表明台湾纵谷具有复杂的过渡性构造。台湾西部和台湾海峡的地震活动也受到菲律宾海板块的控制。福建沿海的地震活动与巴士断层活动有关。在自东向西各地震带的活动能量急剧下降的同时,相应的地热流异常值有一个上升趋势,海峡西岸的地热异常高值多分布在NE与NW向断裂的交汇点上。  相似文献

GPS observation indicates that the Fujian coastal region of China mainland, the region of Taiwan Strait and northern Taiwan island all show a generally homogenous horizontal motion with weak deformation. Historical earthquake record over more than 800 years and modern instrumental data reveal that there is potential seismic risk in and around Taiwan Strait region. After the National Seismic Zoning Map of China (2001) the expected seismic risk in northern part of the Taiwan Strait is lower than that in middle and southern part. The proposed Taiwan Strait Tunnel will raise numerous challenges for environmental professionals. The environmental issues must be incorporated in the preliminary study, planning, design, and construction of the works and be addressed consistently throughout all phases of the project. In this article, the environmental issues that will be encountered in the construction stage are discussed, including environmental impact assessment, environmental monitoring, and specific environmental issues during construction such as spoil handling, air quality and noise control, drainage, and health and safety. Development of ocean community systems relating to the Taiwan Strait Tunnel (TST) project, with regionalization and multistage approach is proposed. The purposes of these systems are to assist the development of coastal marine lands and harbor facilities and to develop connecting isolated islands into an organized community by means of embankment roadways, tunnels, bridges, ferryboats, and so on. The major aim of such an approach is to develop the isolated abandoned islands into useful land improvement, expand the forest, agriculture, and fishing industries and other resources to generate additional revenue to subsidize some of the cost for building the TST. This article points out the systems' importance, outlines the general procedures, and discusses a possible transportation network connecting islands with land; and the outlines development of the knowledge-based expert system computer program to be applied to the ocean community systems relating to the TST project.  相似文献
