This article borrows a statistical method from physical geography—topographical prominence—to suggest a new technique for measuring the relative significance or rank of population centers. Unlike raw population measures, prominence gives consideration to both the spatial intensity of concentrated population areas as well as the spatial dependence or independence of neighboring settlement clusters in relation to one another. We explain how to apply the topographic prominence calculation method to gridded population data and examine its practical utility through case studies of several U.S. states. We then discuss some ways in which parametric choices about point-to-surface transformations can result in considerably different outcomes and offer further suggestions for conceptualizing and measuring population center significance.  相似文献

北黄海海底麻坑群形态的定量研究及控制因素   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
本文基于高分辨率多波束水深数据和反向散射强度数据,对北黄海海底麻坑群的形态参数进行定量研究,结合水深、地形坡度和后向散射强度的变化准确界定了麻坑的轮廓,识别出圆形、椭圆形、拉长型麻坑共282个,并在ArcGIS软件中对其形态参数进行了分析计算,麻坑的平均长轴1.36 km,短轴0.78 km,直径0.94 km,面积0.88 km2,平均周长3.82 km,长宽比1.83,深度0.3~2.5 m,平均面积密集度13%,麻坑的剖面形态有麻坑边缘凹陷、中部有明显凸起(W1型),麻坑边缘凹陷、中部略凸起(W2型),麻坑中部单纯凹陷(V型),分别集中分布在麻坑群的北部、南部、西部。麻坑的平面规模大、深度小的原因与地层中形成麻坑的游离气体浓度较小有关,也可能受到了地震、海啸等外力的诱发。麻坑的长轴优势走向为ENE-WSW、NNE-SSW,底流对其形状的塑造起了较大作用,部分麻坑成串排列,形成串珠状的麻坑链,其排列方式受到海底古河道、古潟湖等沉积地层结构的控制。海底麻坑群发育区反向散射强度为-60~-71 dB,麻坑内部较麻坑外部平均高5 dB,可能为麻坑内部气体泄漏引起海底沉积物被剥蚀后残留下的粗颗粒物质或海底生物活动留下的遗迹导致的。  相似文献

本研究针对中国沿海银口天竺鲷属鱼类分类鉴定不清晰,同种异名多,种类误鉴等分类问题,结合形态特征比较与DNA条形码技术对其分类鉴定问题进行梳理。2014—2019年间于南海北部沿海采集101尾银口天竺鲷属鱼类标本,经形态学特征鉴定为:横带银口天竺鲷Jaydia striata(Smith&Radcliffe,1912),特征为体侧有7—11褐色宽横带,腹鳍、臀鳍浅灰色;印度洋银口天竺鲷J.striatodes(Gon,1997),特征为体侧有7—11褐色宽横带,臀鳍后缘黑色;白边银口天竺鲷J.novaeguineae(Valenciennes,1832),特征为臀鳍、尾鳍最下缘为白边;黑边银口天竺鲷J.truncata(Bleeker,1855)特征为第二背鳍、臀鳍中部有一平行基底的黑色带,尾鳍后缘黑色带略宽;史密斯银口天竺鲷J.smithi Kotthaus,1970,特征为第二背鳍中部有一平行基底的黑色纵带,尾鳍后缘黑色带略细;斑鳍银口天竺鲷J.carinatus (Cuvier,1828),特征为第二背鳍最末软条基底有一大黑斑;黑鳃银口天竺鲷J.poeciloptera (Cuvier,1828),特征为臀鳍淡黄色,鳍膜间有一暗点。研究发现Apogon arafurae并不是J.truncata同种异名,学名应更正为Jaydia poeciloptera。基于线粒体COI基因K2P遗传距离显示,J.striataJ.smithiJ.truncata种内遗传距离大于2%。构建NJ系统发育树发现红海、阿拉伯海和北部湾的J.smithi分成2个单系支。结合NJ树分析发现,J.smithiJ.poeciloptera均出现错误鉴定,认为GenBank上传的序列(MH085808、JQ681491)存在误鉴,实为J.poeciloptera。  相似文献

甲状腺(Glandula thyreoidea)是海洋脊椎动物体内重要的内分泌腺,从海洋脊椎动物开始,才有了独立的甲状腺结构。海洋脊椎动物的甲状腺一般为实质性的组织。实质由甲状腺滤泡组成,构成滤泡的上皮细胞合成、贮存和分泌的甲状腺激素是调节机体生长发育的关键激素。从海洋脊椎动物开始才有了独立的甲状腺结构。对于动物甲状腺的研究多集中在甲状腺形态及甲状腺与生长发育关系方面,而对海洋脊椎动物的甲状腺的研究则越来越多的集中于环境因素所引起的甲状腺病变方面,环境因素对甲状腺功能的影响也逐渐成为科学研究的重点。海洋水体污染导致的甲状腺机能受损,使海洋脊椎动物不能正常生长发育,数目与种类骤减之时,我们不得不重视对海洋脊椎动物甲状腺的研究。  相似文献

Sandy-muddy transitional beaches (SMT-Beaches), representing the transition from sandy beaches to tidal mudflats, should theoretically develop very different morphological and sedimentological characteristics in river estuaries and in semi-enclosed bays due to their contrasting dynamic sedimentary environments. Evidence, however, is rare in the scientific literature. To reveal these morphological and sedimentary differences, the sand–mud transition (SMT) boundary distribution, beach profiles, and surface and downcore sediment grain-size compositions of 27 SMT-Beaches located along mesotidal to macrotidal coasts of the western Taiwan Strait, southeastern China, were investigated. The results show that typical estuarine SMT-Beaches are mainly characterized by an ambiguous SMT, a long distance between the SMT and the coastline (31–302 m), lower SMT and inflection point altitudes (average –0.76 m and –0.04 m), and lower upper beach gradients (~0.068) with fine sand. Estuarine SMT-Beach sediments display clear interbedded mud and sand layers, implying potential SMT migrations over various timescales. By contrast, typical bay SMT-Beaches are characterized by distinct SMT, a short distance between the SMT and the coastline (11–52 m), higher SMT and inflection point altitudes (~0.24 m and ~0.35 m), and narrower upper beaches with higher gradients (~0.095) and coarse sand. Bay SMT-Beaches present relatively stable sedimentary sequences and a narrow gravel belt surrounding the inflection point and/or SMT. These morphological and sedimentary differences between the two SMT-Beach types are initially constrained by sediment supply and transport and are further affected by tide conditions and wave climate. Sediment supply and transport predominately control the sediment structures, while the tidal range strongly influences spatial variations in SMT distances. Wave climate normally drives SMT altitude variations. This study highlights the morphological and sedimentary differences in SMT-Beaches in estuaries and bays, providing important knowledge for further revealing their morphodynamic processes and potential future nourishment. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We use a hydrodynamic model applied to an idealized fan-shaped basin to explore the morphology and dynamics of radial sand ridges in a convergent coastal system. A positive morphological feedback between channel incision and flow redistribution is responsible for the formation of the channel-ridge pattern. The selection mechanism of bottom wavelength is associated with flow concentration in the deeper part of the channels. Our results are compared to sediment and hydraulic dynamics in the radial sand ridges (RSRs) in China. In a convergent, sloping basin the tangentially averaged tidal velocity peaks at 47 km from the apex. This distance is similar to the arc distance, 62 km, where the RSRs are most incised. An offshore shift in tidal phase results in stronger flows near the north coastline, explaining the presence of asymmetric channel patterns. A numerical stability analysis indicates that small radial oscillations with a wavelength of 10° to 15° maximize the velocity in the troughs. This oscillation wavelength also emerges in the RSRs, which display a peak in spectral energy at a radial wavelength between 25° to 37.5°. High-resolution numerical simulations in the RSRs confirm that flow concentration occurs in the deeper part of the channels, keeping them flushed. We therefore conclude that the RSRs display morphometric characteristics similar to other tidal incisions, like tidal inlets and intertidal channels. This result further supports the dominant role of tidal prism and related peak velocities in incising coastal landscapes. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Tracer studies are a commonly used tool to develop and test Einstein-type stochastic bedload transport models. The movements of these tracers are controlled by many factors including grain characteristics, hydrologic forcing, and channel morphology. Although the influence of these sediment storage zones related to morphological features (e.g., bars, pools, riffles) have long been observed to “trap” bedload particles in transport, this influence has not been adequately quantified. In this paper we explore the influence of channel morphology on particle travel distances through the development of a Bayesian survival process model. This model simulates particle path length distributions using a location-specific “trapping probability” parameter (pi ), which is estimated using the starting and ending locations of bedload tracers. We test this model using a field tracer study from Halfmoon Creek, Colorado. We find that (1) the model is able to adequately recreate the observed multi-modal path length distributions, (2) particles tend to accumulate in trapping zones, especially during large floods, and (3) particles entrained near a trapping zone will travel a shorter distance than one that is further away. Particle starting positions can affect path lengths by as much as a factor of two, which we confirm by modelling “starting-location-specific” path length probability distributions. This study highlights the importance of considering both tracer locations and channel topography in examinations of field tracer studies. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Here we report on a set of six apatite reference materials (chlorapatites MGMH#133648, TUBAF#38 and fluorapatites MGMH#128441A, TUBAF#37, 40, 50) which we have characterised for their chlorine isotope ratios; these RMs span a range of Cl mass fractions within the apatite Ca10(PO4)6(F,Cl,OH)2 solid solution series. Numerous apatite specimens, obtained from mineralogical collections, were initially screened for 37Cl/35Cl homogeneity using SIMS followed by δ37Cl characterisation by gas source mass spectrometry using both dual‐inlet and continuous‐flow modes. We also report major and key trace element compositions as determined by EPMA. The repeatability of our SIMS results was better than ± 0.10‰ (1s) for the five samples with > 0.5 % m/m Cl and ± 0.19‰ (1s) for the low Cl abundance material (0.27% m/m). We also observed a small, but significant crystal orientation effect of 0.38‰ between the mean 37Cl/35Cl ratios measured on three oriented apatite fragments. Furthermore, the results of GS‐IRMS analyses show small but systematic offset of δ37ClSMOC values between the three laboratories. Nonetheless, all studied samples have comparable chlorine isotope compositions, with mean 103δ37ClSMOC values between +0.09 and +0.42 and in all cases with 1s ≤ ± 0.25.  相似文献

为了定量研究泥化夹层的空间分布和几何形态,以云南省玉溪市生活垃圾焚烧发电厂高边坡局部开挖剖面为对象,利用徕卡ScanStation C10三维激光扫描仪和瑞典ROMER RA-7520-2六轴关节臂三维测量仪进行扫描,得到了开挖剖面和泥化夹层的原始点云数据;然后采用Cyclone和Geomagic Wrap软件对点云数据进行一系列处理,分析了泥化夹层的三维空间分布、层面产状、间距、层面粗糙度和几何形态。结果表明:大部分泥化夹层横向分布于整个扫描剖面,少数呈局部分布;泥化夹层的平均倾向为196.41°±5.51°,平均倾角为22.27°±2.23°,间距在3.7~49.1 cm之间,平均值为(20.4±12.0)cm;不同层位及同一层位不同横向位置的泥化夹层厚度都不等,最厚约20 mm,最薄小于1 mm;泥化夹层顶面局部典型区域的平面拟合偏差在-22.4~32.5 mm之间,沿夹层倾向的粗糙度系数在5.67~16.77之间,平均值为10.11±3.25;泥化夹层的表面积与体积之比在5.14~5.86 cm-1之间。运用三维激光扫描技术研究泥化夹层的空间分布和几何形态是可行的。玉溪市生活垃圾焚烧发电厂高边坡的泥化夹层具有宏观整体上相对平直、相互近似平行、非等距分布、间距小、层数多、厚度薄,细观上顶面粗糙底面相对光滑、三维形态复杂的特点。  相似文献
